Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that the Blue Jackets haven't had any contract talks with injured sniper Marian Gaborik who might be traded at a second straight deadline. The Slovenia has missed a fair chunk of the season including six weeks because of a knee sprain and is currently sidelined with a broken collarbone after being pinned between two Philadelphia Flyers in a game on Dec. 21.

:burt:

Oh and is anyone interested in one Chris Phillips? He steps it up in the playoffs big time. He usually plays about twice as well in the playoffs as he has during the regular season. This season that might be good enough to help out on the second pairing of a good ECHL team.

TradeCentre: Monday's reports from around the NHL

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal says the St. Louis Blues, one of the best teams in the NHL, could use some help between the pipes. He says they won't give up highly touted prospect Dmitrij Jaskin, but former Oiler Magnus Paajarvi could be made available as well as goaltender Jaroslav Halak. Matheson also says the Chicago Blackhawks are looking for a number two centre to play with Patrick Kane.
Decisions, Decisions
Larry Brooks of the New York Post says the New York Rangers have a decision to make when it comes to defenceman Dan Girardi. The 29-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent at year's end. If the Rangers decide not to extend his contract, Brooks believes the Anaheim Ducks or Boston Bruins would be a good fit in exchange for a package of young defenceman.

Gotta have some veterans around to teach the young kids accountability (I like to refer to it as the anti-Oilers way of doing things).

Edit: He's the best center on the Flames!

So, do we all agree that the deadline will be a snoozer this year, with the real action coming pre-Olympics?

I don't know, think we will see a lot of action this year.

I agree. Some teams that have been sellers recently will be buyers this year. The race is so tight in the east that everyone is going to be looking for that edge.

No one seems to have any cap room to make rentals though

Might actually see some legit hockey trades for a change (if there r trades)

According to a source close to the situation, the Rangers have spoken with the Winnipeg Jets about their forwards.

It's believed the Rangers are interested in acquiring one of Evander Kane, Blake Wheeler or Andrew Ladd from the Jets, who are open to offers, but would require a significant package in order to part with any of those players.

The Jets have been scouting the Rangers lately, with one representative checking in Sunday night's game against the Washington Capitals.

Ladd and Wheeler each own limited no-trade clauses in their contracts, while Kane is not as protected.

If the Jets part with any of those three forwards, they would require NHL-proven talent heading back their way, which would require the Rangers to include at least one of their young roster players as part of a package.

The Fourth Period :: New York Rangers :: Rangers check in on Jets players

For the short time period you all have known me, should know Kane is my favorite player and I will cry if he becomes a Ranger

He would fit in so well here, I will literally trade anybody not named Hank, Mac, Nash or Kreider for him.

so anyone except the 4 good players on the rangers? :suds:

I think the Jets would do a deal with the canucks for Kane involving Alex Edler but Im fairly positive Mike Gillis doesnt want to ask Edler to waive the no-trade ... not because Gilly is a nice guy but because he fears what impending UFA's and current canucks would think about the value of their NTC's

so its a timing issue ... after free agency, during the summer, Gilly will prob be more apt to broach the subject with Edler ... and Kane will probably be gone by then :ohwell:
