Will be interesting to see what gets done during spring training. Surely Harper and Machado will be signed before the season starts won't they?

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Giants have "talked about" a trade for Jacoby Ellsbury as they seek outfield help.

Olney opines that the Giants could be open to a swap of bad contracts, speculating that flipping Johnny Cueto for Ellsbury might make some sense. That potential deal would obviously be complicated, though, and with cheap outfield alternatives available on the market it's hard to fathom why the Giants would have much interest in Ellsbury. The 35-year-old missed all of 2018 due to various injuries and was a below-average hitter for three straight years prior to that.

Ells has one less year, plus potential insurance money if he can’t play?

Huge savings for the giants.

That’s all I got lol

This can lead to them winning the division. This is a move that must be made

Cueto won't be pitching at all in 2019 in all probability. Paying $21M so a guy can rehab, and you really don't know what you'll get in 2020?

Meh.

That's a rumor Olney clearly has created all by himself and passes it off as something being discussed. These scribes have even run out of smokescreens.

I think Machado and Harper probably sign 1 yr. deals soon for sure. Take their chances in free agency next yr.

Not sure anything's gonna change in a year. The owners are colluding, and it's working out splendidly for them so far.

Unfortunately, it's inevitably going to lead to another strike/lockout.

Just read from The Atlantic (so take it with whatever grain of salt you need) is a proposed rule change (key word proposed) to speed up pace of play would require a relief pitcher to face a minimum of three hitters before he can be replaced. The goal being to eliminate the bringing in of a leftie to face a left-handed batter and then immediately being pulled because the next batter hits from the right.
