cant write off rookies after just one season.
Nope, but he is still not a good player and should not have been the pick.

We have already been over this. Rivera was an awful talent evaluator and the fact that he possibly wanted to trade up for him makes it even more absurd.

True, let's hope he pans out. He is not a good player now but that can change. They were going CB with the pick.

Yup, and that was a mistake...Rivera had no clue what he was doing.
I am guessing we will attempt to trade Forbes next year unless he has a miraculous turn around. He is a liability in run support and is picked on in the passing game.
Whitt will have his work cut out for him.

So, you don't think Forbes wasn't worthy of being a first-round pick by any team? Or you wanted a different CB. I had Gonzo as my #1 CB but the only reason why he was there b/c NE knew RR loved Forbes and wasn't passing him up.

Going CB was not a mistake in the 1st round IMO. Look at BSJ last year. Hopefully he turns it around.

Forbes weight was a big problem and many people said that.
Rivera was an awful talent evaluator, as such, when it wad obvious Rivera wanted him, I knew it was a mistake.
Forbes was a top 5 CB to me, not a top 2 or 3. Witherspoon was clearly the top CB. I had banks, Porter Jr. and Gonzalez ahead of Forbes. Forbes probably would have probably been a 2nd pick if I thought about it.

Going CB was a huge mistake in round 1. CB could easily have been addressed in free agency. Rivera thought he was the smartest one in the room and didn't see it. This is why you and I argued every offseason. I never trusted Rivera because I had no reason to. I dont know why you did. Only you can answer that.

Rivera had 2 goals in the 2023 offseason and he didn't accomplish either one.
1. Identify, acquire, and start to develop the qb of the future.
2. Secure an OLine to protect the QB.

The 1st round pick needed to be OT or a Guard at least.
I said this word for word and was right.
Instead, Rivera patted himself on the back when he signed Wylie and gates. Those were both massive mistakes. Rivera wanted more help on defense and refused to see the obvious. I am sure you would agree that a 1st round OLineman would have helped the ream more than forbes.

Now, peters has to clean up the mess Rivera left.

We shall see, Joe Whitt doesn't agree with you. Darrell Green doesn't agree with you.

With all do respect, what was whitt going to say?

This guy sux and was a mistake..lol

Again, every fanbase wants to support their players and hype them up. We are no different. Just because someone is drafted by us doesn't make them a good player.

And doug williams disagreed with eveyone who had given up on haskins. I remember williams saying Haskins had a lot of potential and could be a good qb as well. He tried to talk rivera out of cutting Haskins.

The real question is if Forbes went on the trade block tomorrow in another universe, what would you get for him?

Would a team or teams give a 7th rounder and try to rehab him for depth?

Or

Would a team give up a 3rd or 4th because they see star potential and realize it's a coaching issue?

Forbes had a 1st round grade on him. Rumor was Dallas was going to take him first round if we passed. Was 16 high? yes. I liked gonzo, Forbes and Porter going in. Who was the Ot or OG that was worthy of the 16th overall pick? The top OTs were of the board, and we had no calls to trade out of 16.

My mini mock last year was Porter than Aviala. then there was huge news like kbso posted that RR loved Forbes and he was the target. Agree, Peters has a mess to clean up but we have draft picks and cap room to do it.

I think you don’t want to see the logic in the Forbes pick. Forbes is supposed to be a ball hawk. We had invested 4 first round picks in the DL over the previous four drafts. Our DL should have produced over 40 or 50 sacks based on the hype and the pressure should have set up nicely for a corner with his ball skills.

While you, me, and every other poster may disagree with the pick, the pick is logical.

Why did Darrell Green and Smoot like him. Why did other pro scouts like him. Maybe your right but your feelings regarding RR may influence you. All good, I am in the wait and see crowd instead of call him trash already.

I dont buy into rumors and you know that.
Who is the source? You do that alot. You claim there is a rumor and it turned out to be nothing.

If you didn't like Witherspoon, we should probably drop the whole conversation because we are on different planets. Witherspoon was the highest rated cb and was excellent as a rookie. Apparently you liked forbes better? That makes no sense to me.

You believe in Forbes because he was drafted by the team. This is what chiller was telling you. You rubber stamp everything we do.

I would have taken torrence at 16 or traded down. He was a plug and play player.
We don't know if we had calls or not. I doubt Rivera would have said they did or didn't. Apparently you still trust rivera. I am confident we could have traded down if we tried to. Rivera wasn't exactly honest all the time while he was here. He told the media we would be a powe running team with a 2 to 1 run ratio. I believe we led the league in pass attempts right?

One offseason won't clean up the damage Rivera did Dean. We can start, but it will take a few offseasons to get the roster where it needs to be. Peters is good, but not a miracle worker.

I don't see the logic because the area should have been addressed in free agency. It wasn't a pressing issue to me. Looking back, if we went defense, Campbell at LB should have been the pick.

Also, i don't see the logic because the wrong CB was taken.

Even Rivera and JDR saw the mistake and benched him. The season was already over so one would think that keeping him out there and allowing him to grow would have been wise? I guess not.

I agree on the DL, but I also believe Rivera naturally defaulted to defense when it came to player acquisition. I didn't see CB as a massive need and viewed the OLine as mission critical in order to protect howell. Rivera disagreed.

I think if Forbes played for DAL we would say he sux but because he was our 1st round pick, we want to believe in him. Logically, the pick won't work out because Riveras 1st round picks were awful outside of Dotson. And even there, we should have kept the pick and taken olave.
