a big blow, but not a season killer as IMO Corbin wasn't duplicating last seasons success and he was actually really awful in 2nd half of last season

Yay for Wade Miley being our opening day starter most likely. Still better than Kennedy.

Corbin said that he'd been having issues with his elbow/forearm, but didn't say anything. Is it possible that this issue dates back to late last season?

TJ surgery is the recommendation for this injury. He technically could be pitching this time next year but not at full strength till about 18 months out from the surgery.

I still think Bradley starts the season in Reno with Delgado sliding into the rotation & Harris keeping his spot in the BP. Delgado looked good in his last extended start. The only issue that I have seen with him this spring is that his FB has looked flat at times & that has lead to him giving up the long ball too often.

It's not the end of the world. While this definitely hurts & probably cost the team 2-3 wins this season, this is why you have SP pitching depth. Luckily we have that.

Honestly, I am not quite sure what pitching depth you are referring to. I guess the team has a lot of pitchers, but none of them are really any good or reliable.

Cahill- absolutely horrible and should be kicked off the team
Miley- very inconsistent, never know if he will pitch well or terribly
Delgado- could be good but way too small of a sample size so far
McCarthy- cannot be relied upon for anything. Has never even pitched more than 15 starts in a year during his career because he is always injured.
Collmenter- best served as the long reliever
Arroyo- reliable number three starter but might be on the DL for the first time in his career unfortunately
Bradley- pitcher with the most potential on the team but may not be ready to be thrust into the big leagues

This is a perfect reason why Kevin Towers is an absolute joke. He not only did not acquire an ace this offseason, he actually traded away two of the top pitching prospects in the organization in Tyler Skaggs and David Holmberg. The latter of which was given away in the salary dump of Heath Bell. I remember that the D'backs said that they were going to be getting a really good PTBNL in that trade too. Well the guy they got just voluntarily retired at age 26. So much for that. Report: Recently traded Todd Glaesmann placed on Voluntarily Retired list - DRaysBay

So now the team is going to be heading into the season without their ace who most likely needs tommy john surgery. They have a bunch of pitchers that have never really done anything in their careers except Arroyo. They already were probably not going anywhere even with Corbin, now they are without him and do not have anyone they can rely on. No one. This is embarrassing. How many people would like to have Skaggs and Holmberg back right about now? I would. Seeing Holmberg and Skaggs out there would at least bring hope because of their potential. Seeing Cahill and McCarthy out there makes me cringe. How many years is the organization going to be in denial about those two guys. Truly insane.

As of right now, I would say this season is probably going to a lost season, which is sad. The ace just went down, the starting pitching staff is the worst in the league in my opinion, and the first pitch has not even been thrown yet. Good luck competing the Giants and Dodgers pitching staff's this season. I think that one day, these past two years and this year will be remembered as lost seasons for the organization. Totally mediocre team with garbage pitching and no chance to win anything. It really is a shame. I wish things could be different and I am wrong and the team ends up being good, but I just do not see it. How can a team win anything with Cahill as your number two pitcher? The guy is one of the worst pitchers in baseball. I hope he is off the team as soon as possible. As long as he is on the team, they will go nowhere. The organization needs to get its act together and fix this. They should be embarrassed. This team has such a rich history of incredible starting pitching with the likes of Johnson, Schilling, and then Brandon Webb before he was injured. Now they employ such pitchers as Cahill, McCarthy, and previously Ian Kennedy. What a joke.

I have to agree with Tuffy in regards to the pitching depth. The depth is there, but it's not quality depth. The talent and potential is severely lacking right now. Bradley looks like he is going to be good, but he's not ready to be thrown into the starting rotation just yet.

Now that Corbin is probably going to need tommy john surgery, Cubs sources are saying that the D'backs are looking at Samardzija again. They say that he is the frontline starter the D'backs are looking for. That is a complete joke to me. How the hell can someone who just had a 4.34 era for last season and a career era of 4.19 be considered a frontline starter? No way in hell. Just because he is the Cubs opening day starter and ace does not mean he is actually an ace. One of the Cubs writers even said that the Cubs want Bradley in return. I would not give Archie Bradley to the Cubs for their entire team plus 100 million dollars. If they want to trade Samardzija, they can have Cahill and McCarthy and another prospect. Anything more than that is overpaying.

Our rotation is horrible

Cahill-Miley-Arroyo-McCarthy-Delgado to start the year.... can you say mediocre?

Corbin's injury is an absolute killer. If Archie Bradley doesn't have a breakout season when he's called up and fails to live up to his hype then I hate to say it, but we're done. Pretty sad that we have to rely on someone that hasn't even made his MLB debut yet.

I was really looking forward to a Corbin-Bradley 1-2 punch this year... ugh.

I totally agree. I did not really think the team had a chance even with Corbin because the rest of the rotation is so terrible. Now without him, I say this rotation is hands down the worst in baseball. There is not one pitcher on the team that I believe is anything other than a number three at best (besides Bradley, but he is currently not part of the rotation). The only other pitcher I actually think has potential besides Bradley is Delgado because he had some games last year where he looked pretty good. Besides that, I am not excited about anyone.

I am also really worried about bringing Bradley up now and putting too much pressure on him. He should be coming up in a no pressure situation and that just is not possible anymore. Kevin Towers went all out for position players and bullpen guys and for the third year in a row does nothing for the starting rotation.

The starting rotation is the most important part of a baseball team, and that is the Diamondbacks biggest weakness. This season is over with before it has begun. The only way that this team does anything this year is if every starting pitcher has the best year of their careers. What are the chances of that happening? I would say slim to none. This is going to be another wasted season. The entire offseason, all Towers talked about was acquiring a frontline starting pitcher. He never did or even came close. All he did was talk about how proud he was of the way the team pursued Tanaka. If that is not the definition of pathetic, I do not know what is. If anybody looks at the San Diego Padres yearly records when Towers was their general manager, they are going to be very disappointed. In the fifteen years he was with them, they made the playoffs four times. Three of those four years, they combined for a record of 1-9 in the LDS. They made the World Series in 1998 and were swept. In nine of the fifteen years he was there, the Padres finished in either last or second to last place in the West. This does not bode well for the Diamondbacks future.

Towers dealt away 4 of our top prospects this off-season and got 0 front line pitchers in return. The Corbin injury just highlights Towers' failure as a GM.

Worst in baseball? Let's not get too crazy. I'd take the AZ rotation over the Blue Jays any day of the week.

I agree the Snakes are done, but also agree they were probably done even with Corbin.

If I put on my rose-colored glasses, I guess I can say:
1. McCarthy has actually looked great this Spring. Maybe he returns to form?
2. Miley can be above average and a valuable rotation guy
3. Arroyo is like 80 and you know what you'll get with him. Probably ends up average this year.
4. Cahill...okay, I'm struggling here....
5. Delgado has a lot of "potential"

That's all I got. The bullpen COULD be really good.

Seems like just yesterday we talking about how set we were in the future with all of our "elite" pitching prospects. Oh.... Kevin Towers. You are just wonderful.

And I got a thumbs down for this. Still want to defend our horrible rotation, Mike? Just admit the Arroyo signing was a mistake. I'm always right.
