Meh...Villar hits a 2 run HR in the 8th for NY...making it a 7-5 game.

Too little too late imho.....plus the Mets BP is swiss cheese right now.
Any runs we score will be given right back..and then some.

Seth Lugo kept it at a 2 run game with a 1-2-3 8th .
7-5 heading to the 9th. Last chance for the Metsies.

Would love to see Pete hit that coke bottle above the LF bleacher seats.

edit:
Nope....not tonight.
1 out.

Final:
SFG - 7
NYM - 5

Stro will be on the hill tomorrow night.
Hopefully he can help right the ship.

Mets need a spark..and badly. Something better give and soon.

Now dropped down to .500 (59-59) & 3.5 GB in the NL east....with just 44 games to go.
We can pretty much forget about any wildcard talk....as there's too many teams ahead of us.
It's gonna have to be the division or bust.

Would be nice if we could have the 2019-20 Conforto & McNeil again.
Not to mention deGrom, Thor, Lindor & Baez for the final month.

Up Next....

Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (8-11, 2.79) faces San Francisco on Tuesday for the first time since 2016. Stroman ended a three-start skid in his previous outing when he beat the Nationals.
Giants RHP Logan Webb (6-3, 2.96 ERA) has won five consecutive decisions dating to May 11.

Also....

The Mets called up catcher Patrick Mazeika and RHP Trevor Williams from Triple-A Syracuse.
RHP Geoff Hartlieb was optioned down.

Trainer's Room....

Mets SS Javier Báez
(back spasms) fielded grounders before the game and the team sounds confident he will be ready to return soon. Báez is eligible to come off the injured list Sunday.
RHP Jacob deGrom's elbow inflammation is improving but the Mets plan on sticking to a two-week shutdown.
C Tomas Nido was placed on the 10-day IL with a sprained left thumb.

I was amazed they somehow managed to put up 3 runs earlier tonight to take the lead briefly..and then 2 more teasers late in the game to bring them close....but I also knew those 5 runs weren't going to be enough to win it...not on this night.

The jet lag caught up and eventually kicked in....and they looked drained by the 6th/7th inning.
Hopefully it wears off by tomorrow.

McNeil is another one with the 1st pitch brain cramps.
Why do so many Mets hitters suffer from that affliction?...especially with runners in scoring position?

Mets had 1st & 3rd with 1 out....so naturally McNeil went after the 1st pitch...and GIDP. :L

Still 2-0 SF...mid 4th

The sweep is even more likely.

Stro was doing all he could to keep this game close....but he just isn't getting any support whatsoever from the offense.

It's now 3-0 after he gave up a Longoria solo HR in the 7th.

Mets are in the midst of a sad stretch of games...and there's no end in sight.

He valiantly took one for the staff and team tonight.
Going 7 innings..and throwing 114 pitches.

Mets miraculously scored 2 on Pete's 2 run HR in the 8th.
But that likely won't be good enough either. (sigh)

Sorry to be a negative norman, but hey..we've all seen this movie dozens of times, and know the story's ending ad nauseam.

It's heading for the old.... "too little, too late" outcome once more.

3-2 Giants...mid 8th.

Aaron Loup will be coming in.

Memo to Villar and the other Mets batters.
HP umps generally have no mercy for slumping and struggling teams.
That called 3rd strike was low & inside....and should've been called a ball.

But I digress.....

They got the tying run to 2nd w/ 2 outs in the 9th...then Pillar was caught looking at strike 3.

Mets come up a buck short....losing 3-2.

Rojas is still shrugging.

Hopefully they can avoid being swept in tomorrow's matinee.
(not gonna hold my breath)

We are now 1 game below .500, in 3rd place, and 4.5 GB in the NL East.

A local friend of mine who's also a Mets fan and way more optimistic about the team than I am, told me earlier today "this will all seem funny and be an afterthought by mid September" and that "it'll make the Mets comeback to win the division even sweeter".

So I asked him if he cared to put a little money on that notion....he only smiled and said "nope..no thanks".

And there you have it.

Mets drop another..

Trainer's Room..

Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard threw 15-20 pitches, both fastballs and changeups, while facing batters for the first time since he got shut down in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Luis Rojas said another simulated game will be next for Syndergaard but wasn't sure yet what day.
SS Francisco Lindor (strained right oblique) was one of the hitters who faced Syndergaard and if he can get enough at-bats this way he might be able to avoid a minor league rehab assignment, according to Rojas. "We simulated a lot of things today, the pitches that he saw," Rojas said.

Up Next..

Rookie RHP Tylor Megill (1-2, 3.42 ERA) pitches the series finale on Wednesday for New York facing the Giants for the first time. San Francisco RHP Anthony DeSclafani (11-5, 3.29) tries to win his second straight start.
