Mets All-Star Jeff McNeil (strained left hamstring) played third base and right field for Class A Brooklyn, going 1 for 4 in a rehab appearance. Manager Mickey Callaway left open the possibility that McNeil would rejoin New York on Saturday. ... C Tomas Nido was visited by a trainer after being slammed in the back of the head by Donaldson's backswing while trying to throw out a stealing runner in the sixth. Nido stayed in but was replaced the next inning by Wilson Ramos. Nido was being evaluated after the game.

Next:
Mets RHP Zack Wheeler (9-7, 4.40) is slated to start for New York against Braves LHP Max Fried (14-4, 3.84) who will honor late Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs with his Players' Weekend uniform, which reads "Love You Ty." Fried and Skaggs both grew up in Southern California.

Fucking shame they gave control of the game away in the 8th & 9th after they grabbed it in the 5th.


This game turned out to be an embarrassment on a couple of levels.

Gonna take a sold effort in tomorrow's matinee by Matz, & the batz to prevent a sweep, before the Cubbies series begins early next week.

Trainer's room/FO stuff...
A day after taking a Josh Donaldson backswing off his helmet, Mets catcher Tomas Nido landed on Major League Baseball’s seven-day injured list for head injuries. Team doctors diagnosed Nido with a concussion.

To replace him, the Mets called up veteran catcher Rene Rivera, who was batting .254 with 25 home runs and an .820 OPS at Triple-A Syracuse. The Mets signed Rivera this spring after another veteran, Devin Mesoraco, declined to report to Syracuse when he did not make the team.


Next:
Mets LHP Steven Matz (8-7, 4.18) faces Braves LHP Dallas Keuchel (4-5, 4.14 ERA) in the series finale on Sunday.
