Maybe the question should be O/u on 19.5 no hitters this year? we're on pace for almost 21 now.

I'm going to start a cycle or 4 hr alert thread because the amount of no hitters barely one month into the season is crazy

Seems like that "subtle" ball change MLB implemented for this year may not be so subtle after all?

Craziest thing is all 5 no hitters this year have come against AL lineups.
4 of those have been against Cleveland & *Seattle...(twice each)
*For the Mariners it was the 2nd time they were no hit in less than 2 weeks.
Even crazier.

That's not counting MadBum's 7 inning no no against Atlanta in April.
It was the 2nd 7 inning game of a Double header.

The twins always manage to get a couple meaningless two out singles in games they are down 5+ runs. Josh donaldson is the king of pointless stat padding. He has single handedly committed 4 9th inning errors that have cost the twins wins but has hit 3 homeruns when down by 10.

Not sure no hitters should count against the Mariners. Seattle was actually 6 outs away from being no hit last week and that would have been 3 in 2 weeks.

Not as bad as the Braves almost getting no-hit twice in the same day...

I forget who it was but not too long ago, a former player ripped into today's game for having bad hitting.

He was, of course, called an old man yelling at the clouds.

The more we have these no-hitters, the more it proves him right.

It’s the focusing on launch angle and going all in on the three true outcome strategy to offense.

I hate changing rules to adjust to current trends, but cyber metrics have ruined the game and made it boring af. Something needs to be done. I have no idea what.

Implausible idea: it would be nice if managers for the rest of the season always leave a starter in until he gives up a hit, barring injury or major control issue.

That means if you brought up a guy from the minors to start and planned to have him on a pitch count of 50-60 or whatever, he stays in if he hasn't given up a hit yet.

If you are using an "opener", don't remove him if he hasn't given up a hit yet.

Just tell these pitchers to ease up and exert themselves less as they blow beyond how much they would normally throw in a game.

I know that no hitters by committee count too and everything, I just want to see if an offense is so hapless they can be no hit by a bullpen guy, by someone who had no business throwing 9 innings of a competitive game.

the fact that the MLB talked about using a less juiced ball this season, doesnt help this situation at all...

Why does baseball get in its own way?? you use a juiced ball, and then complain about there being too many Home runs, now you are basically using a dead ball, and you are complaining about too many no hitters... and such lack of offense...

i have a suggestion baseball. choose the type of baseball you want, and stop chainging!!! you are not helping the sport!!!

That’s what happens when you have leadership full of businessmen rather than people who actually love the game.

Bud Selig may have been a sleazy used-car salesman, but no one ever questioned his love of the game. I doubt Manfred ever considered himself an actual fan. Baseball is just the industry his career path dropped him into. He really couldn’t care less about the game itself.

one of many... But i honestly dont see a way out of this problem...

its really all connected...

players get paid too much, that makes hitters only care about their stats, because that is how they get paid, and HRs/RBIs will always be the king of stats...

then you go to pitching, pitchers get paid too much, they get pampered, no starter goes over 100 pitches.... whcih makes it very rare for pitchers to go over 6 innings... Creates a bigger importance to Relief pitching... And since SP dont go far, and relief pitching is more important, pitchers no longer need to change velocity... they all just go all out from the start... what this means for offensive players, is that pitchers pitch harder, so it is harder to get a hit... and therefore hitters are only going to go for the Home run more often... and the more you go for the HR, the more you will strike out...

So... if you get paid more because of HRs and RBIs, and it has become harder to hit in general, which increases the need to attempt for HRs, how can you fix the strike out problem???
