Nnamdi Asomugha chooses #49ers and has agreed to terms, per sources. He had also considered #Saints. #NnamdiWatch

meh; I think we saw what he really is in Philadelphia. I suppose he's got to be better than some of the guys they currently have and it might allow Culliver to move into Goldson's former spot..

We saw what he really is in Philly when he has to play off the receiver in a zone. He is a man-t-man guy that needs to jam at the line of scrimmage, and we will allow him to do that.

If a team loses a FA, they get a compensatory pick for him (depending on how big the contract was). What negates those picks is signing URFAs. However, it a guy is cut from another team, that signing doesn't negate the compensatory pick.

Ohhh, guess that is why they are kicking the rotted out tires of Woodson

Since when do the Niners play that type of D with their DBs? They play very passively and try not to let receivers get by them.

Culliver played safety in college.

Yeah, but I like him better in coverage (other than the Super Bowl). We need him for guys like megatron (who he defended pretty well). Hopefully nnamdi can fill that cap, but we are going to need him at cb after this year if nnamdi and Rogers are gone.

Yup, we need to play him to his strengths. Need to keep him on one side of the field like he was in Oakland too. We've seen how damn good he can be when played too his strengths. He just isn't very versatile.

Also, a damn good contract for us. Nothing guaranteed is risky for him. Surprised the amount is so low in combination with nothing guaranteed.

We actually play man to man alot it's when we go to zone is when we get into trouble. For some reasons when we have a lead we switch to zone and then get torched the 1st & 2nd halves of the Patriots game come to mind.

you let them all compete, including Cox and Brock.

if i had to guess now.......the starters and nickel remain the same to start the season.

I think it goes Brown, Aso in base Brown, Aso, Rodgers/Draft pick (Mathieu)/ Cully in Nickle. I hope we do like a hybrid Nickle where Whitner comes off the field and Cully or Aso becomes the "safety". That way we can match up better against WRs & TEs

yep, makes sense to me. if we go to nickle or dime, Whitner might come off the field. just read Asomougha was a safety most of his college career.

Donte Whitner on NFL Network:

Q: I know you're working on gameday and you don't see much but from what you have seen, what does Nnamdi look like to you?

A: In Philly, they play alot of zone coverage. When Nnamdi was in Oakland they played alot of press on, man-to-man, let him get up there and use his long body, length and size to cover those WRs and if you look at our scheme that's what we do. We play alot of man. We play probably 70% man back there and he'll get up there in alot of WRs faces and we'll have the opportunity to use our pass rush and let those guys work for them and I believe he'll come out and have a great year for us.

Q: So you say he has something left? Don't believe the hype?

A: He has alot left. I really believe he has alot left. He's going to get up there and challenge alot of the receivers. He's a big, strong CB. Just because you go to Philadelphia and have a bad year, a bad two years as a team collectively, all the fingers are going to be pointed at the guy who made the most money in a city like Philadelphia. He's going to come in, he's going to work, we expect that. He's going to play some good football for us.

CB (6)
Brown
Aso
Rogers
Cully
Cox
Brock

S(5)
Whitner
Dahl
Spillman
Robinson
McBath

We will definitely draft a Safety, who will probably take McBath's spot. If we draft a CB this would give us 11 or 12 DBs depending on whether Brock makes the team or not. Last year I think we had 10 DBs on the roster...should be an interesting competition!

Also, I don't think there is any way Woodson comes on board now, especially since he wouldn't play STs.

Rogers plays the slot anyway. If he's worth even keeping on the roster at his salary & isn't starting, I don't see any reason Culliver shouldn't play FS. It at least gets him on the field.

With Nnamdi on the roster, however, I don't know that Rogers is even worth keeping. However, it only helps to cut him if another starting caliber player from another tean gets cut because, outside of Abraham, there really isn't anyone left in FA who can help all that much.

Scratch that; Richard Seymour is still out there too. I forgot about him because he's done a disappearing act in the news. I'd take Seymour over Rogers for 1 year now.
