Cardinals fans are never satisfied.

Well, neither are Yankees and Red Sox fans. But Cardinals fans actually have a deserved rep for being pretty classy. They gave a standing O to Sanchez when he left the mound in game one after giving up that hit.

It's easy to be classy when they're in a pennant race almost every year.

Well, now it's a 5 game series, with one team spotted 2 games.
tomato, tomahto. 2-0 is still anybody's series. Now 3-0, that get's a little difficult

I fault Shildt for this. They put up 10 runs in the first against the Braves and he still puts his best pitcher out there to pitch over a hundred pitches. They were up 13-0 after 3 innings and he still left him out there. They could have started their best pitcher in game 1 or game 2 at least. Piss poor managing.

The only thing about that is Mikolas and Wainwright (at this stage in his career) are so much better at Busch Stadium. And they did pitch pretty well, but the Nationals guys were even better.

But he is easily their best pitcher.
The stats I found show he was better at home than on the road.
Either way, leaving your best pitcher in to pitch over 100 pitches in a 13-0 game is silly.

Yeah, I agree leaving him in that long was unnecessary. And I realize he is also better at home. But if you look at Wainwright's stats after his last injury he is absolutely awful on the road but still good at home, whereas Flaherty is a legitimate ace just coming into his prime who has been better at home, but he has still been great on the road as well.

I guess this begs the question - should fans be happy that their team is totally outclassed?

Nationals are easy to root for. If they end up closing us out I'll definitely root for them in the World Series.

Fuck that

I actually thought the pitching matchups worked about as well as it could have for the Cardinals.

The problem is that the Cardinals are an A tier pitching team with C tier hitting. Nationals are an A+ tier pitching team with B tier hitting. On paper, this isn't too terribly surprising of a result but I think there was an expectation that the Cardinals hitters were going to be a little better.

Yeah, that about how I see it too.
But they are kind of right handed heavy in terms of their power. So if they survive this game, even though Corbin has been good, they have some guys that could do some damage in game 4. Goldschmidt and Ozuna both have long histories of hitting well against lefties, as well as Jose Martinez.

Having Martinez in the line-up might be the spark the Cardinals need

Bad base running by Ozuna there... Great defense by Strasburg there running right at Ozuna
