Fuck, looks like I am a jinx. Shouldn't have been praising the kid. I'm with Smoltz, why challenge the #8 hitter on a 2-0 count and the pitcher coming up. Bad decision and a bad pitch. Way too much of the plate.
Really the only bad pitch though. The first 3 hits were a bunt and 2 bloops.

Yup, you're right. I think the manager should take the decision out of his hands at that point, though. Easy to second guess, I realize, but the play there is to intentionally walk him to try for the DP with Lackey, imo. I was thinking that before Russell got to the plate even. A little bad luck can rattle a young kid.
