You ready to renew our Pints wager? I believe we're back to all square, or if you prefer, I owe you a pitcher and you owe me a pitcher...
my lawyer has advised me to respectfully decline any further wagering with confidence on the future cobb county crackers..... i think i am going to take a page out of hokiehi's book and increase my vriches by betting heavily against them.

LOL! Yeah, I saw you already put a wager on them for tonight. Wins have been hard to come by for the Mets at Turner Field, though. I'm tempted to bet Atlanta.

So Sandy Alderson kept predicting 90 wins for the Mets, and eventually he was bound to be correct, right?

22 games left; if they can go .500 that's 90 on the nose.

It's crazy just how much the Mets offense has improved.

1st half: .233/.298/.363, 138 doubles, 9 triples, 75 HR, 310 runs in 89 games (3.48 runs per game)
2nd half: .267/.339/.458, 120 doubles, 5 triples, 81 HR, 304 runs in 54 games (5.63 runs per game)

Not just the pickup of Cespedes either. Granderson's having his best season since 2011, d'Aranud's been on a tear since coming off the DL (picking up where he left off last year), and Conforto's played very well (.290/.371/.540 in 143 PA; his BABIP is a mere .312). Duda's also picked it up in the 2nd half (.901 OPS).

The sudden improvement is a lot like that of the 2012 A's. They had one of the worst offenses in the league for years and started out pretty badly the first two months of 2012, and then they suddenly had one of the best offenses in the league for the next few years.

Not just the pickup of Cespedes either.

Collins was talking about this the other day, and I absolutely agree with him: the biggest positive change for this offense (and the clubhouse) was the pre-deadline trade that brought them Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe. Not that either of them are hall of famers or even MVP candidates, but both of them are good, veteran hitters. They immediately became the two best batting averages in the lineup, and the team responded instantly.

Also, the trade signified to the rest of the team two things: A) ownership was (finally) willing to do what it took to win more games, and B) you'd better produce or your playing days will be limited in the future.

The final piece, and I hate to use the word, but it's "intangible": the Wilmer Flores non-trade and tearfest. I think that actually did a lot to galvanize the team but I can't prove or measure it. It just seems like a looser, more fun clubhouse since all those things happened within the same week.
