Haralson is what he is. Good against the run, tolerable pass rush ability, great locker room presence. He's probably a below average starter as most teams value pass rush above all else at the position, but he could definitely start for many teams.

:agree: I have to say I did not see this move coming. Guess I have to pay more attention.

And for the record, I've been a huge Haralson fan since we drafted him. I think he's really contributed to this team. I'm all for keeping him, unless we can get a pretty good pick out of someone.

As an Eagles fan, I would trade a 5th rounder in a heartbeat to get him. We need help bad at OLB. What is he like in coverage? I heard he is a really good run defender at OLB.... What else?

We have former director of player personnel of the 9ers in Tom Gamble too. Could be the connection for us to be perfect trade partners.

I think the best case would be a 4th round pick, realistically I think a fifth or sixth wouold be more in the realm of possibilty. I like Parys he is solid he would be a starter on quite a few teams. He is not superstar quality, but he could be a solid very down player on 10-12 nfl teams. He is in his free agency year and will probably leave at the end of the year for a chance to start so its a chance to get something in return for him. The young kids do look good so I am not nervous about him going, just the homer in me that would like to keep him around.

He's not very good in coverage. He's short for the position, and not the most fluid. In terms of playing the run, he is assignment sound and does a good job of setting the edge. He's not a downhill tackler, though. As a pass rusher, he's serviceable. He's not explosive, but he's physical and relentless. He's capable of 5+ sacks in a season, but is unlikely to break that number by much. He's best in a two-down role like the one he filled while rotating with Aldon in 2011. He was a two- or three-time captain at Tennessee, is a very hard worker, high character guy. As said, if we can't get at least a fifth for him, I think he presents more value as a rotational player.

@Eric_Branch: #49ers LB Parys Haralson has presumably been traded, but just declined an interview request.

Def wish him well.

Kinda sucks for haralson. They made him restructure his contract too. What a bummer for him.

I can't think we'd trade a starting-caliber OLB to an NFC playoff contender unless we got pretty good compensation. Jimmy Graham, maybe?
