From a fairness perspective the only justification I can see for the unbalanced conferences is if this partially considered compensation to western teams for having the much tougher travel schedule. The 7% extra projected playoff revenue will hardly account for much of the extra travel costs. Plus teams that don't sellout regulalarly will lose that extra revenue they use to get whenever Detroit came to town. Moving Detroit and Columbus out the west will help reduce some of the travel cost for the west coast teams. Not sure how it will affect teams like Chicago and St Louis. It would probably actually increase their travel costs depending on the schedule.

I'm excited the Patrick Division is back together. But that is overshadowed by a collosal failure here.

Having a better or worse chance of making the playoffs based on your geographic location is fucking ridiculous. If you are an owner in the East, why would you agree to a business decision that will guarantee you less revenue over time? If you are the NHL, why do you want to have more of your big TV markets in the East out of the playoffs?

If they had made it 15-15, I'd be all for this plan. Division differences are negligible b/c your division winner would have made the playoffs anyway and seedings don't mean that much in hockey. But having a smaller chance to make the postseason? That's pretty huge.

Especially when there are now only 7 playoff spots available in the East with the addition of Detroit.

I'm pretty annoyed by this. I can't wait for the season when 3 teams with winning records in the East miss the postseason while 2 teams with losing records out West make the playoffs.

this pretty much somes up my opinion.. there were so many better options.

The unbalanced conference idea is the dumbest thing the NHL has come up with in at least the last 6 months.

Seriously, are any of surprised that they managed to fuck this up? After all, this is the league that still owns the Coyotes, lost an entire season to a lockout and followed that up a few years later with a half season due to a lockout.

DON'T MAKE ME BREAK THIS OVER YOUR HEAD! I TOLD THEM THEY CAN'T DO IT THAT WAY, AND THAT'S THAT!

Guys, please don't make him angry. He beats me with a riding crop when he's angry.

Okay. Listen up. I know that you think because you are a "fan" that you want some say in this process. But if you keep poking at my master, I will be forced to name the HHoF "Little Caesar's room o' hockey stuff" and give Mike the first four draft picks for the next six drafts. Plus I will have to appoint a former Red Wing to the rules committee, like I had to give that oversensitive twit the job as head disciplinarian because I said in public that I liked Pizza Hut. And none of us want that. Well, none of YOU want that. I don't give a shit about Soccer. Or Rugby. Or whatever it is you play and watch. I am afraid that since you are in violation of rule 72.9 "Pissing off Jacobs or Illitch", I have to turn you over to the Sheriff.

In what can only be described as a blatant and overzealous attempt to inject common sense into a discussion that Mr Awesome Man doesn't want to have, and based on a clear history of trying to do the same thing, I am forced to find that any NHL fan who doesn't just shut up and accept what Mr Illitch and Mr Holland want will be suspended for the period of 187 games. Brought to you by Little Caesar's Crazy Wings.

It better be. Otherwise Pegula will have to wear the gimp costume at the next meetings.

Not sure Ilitch could pull that off. Pegula could buy and sell Ilitch three times over.

But then again, if it Ilitch could convince Pegula that was the secret to winning a Cup, he'd probably do it.

It has come to my attention that a fan of the Sabres gave out pizza that wasn't Little Caesars. Gary, fix this.

Probably been discussed, but when expansion inevitably happens and it's in QC and Greater Toronto Area, do Detroit and CBJ move back West?

No. The NHL will create a seperate division with only Detroit in it called the "Super Awesome Manly Guys" division, so that Detroit will always be the division winner and get an automatic berth in the finals.

And we will all have to start calling Illitch "Emperor" and anyone who mentions anything about a hairpiece will be executed.
