From a fairness perspective the only justification I can see for the unbalanced conferences is if this partially considered compensation to western teams for having the much tougher travel schedule. The 7% extra projected playoff revenue will hardly account for much of the extra travel costs. Plus teams that don't sellout regulalarly will lose that extra revenue they use to get whenever Detroit came to town. Moving Detroit and Columbus out the west will help reduce some of the travel cost for the west coast teams. Not sure how it will affect teams like Chicago and St Louis. It would probably actually increase their travel costs depending on the schedule.
