Schlotman to me is the biggest surprise. I thought he would give depth across the interior of the OL. Followed closely by Cleveland - Benson absolutely deserves to be on the 53 over him, but his ST play was impressive last year.

Who would you have wanted to cut in favor for him? Muti? Meinerz? We can't keep 3 interior lineman on the 53.

We really can't play the what if game. Based on what I have heard the Broncos didn't have a franchise QB grade on Jones or Fields. I would prefer to wait for a guy that we think will be that franchise QB then to take one to take one.

Remember Schlotman can backup nearly every position on the OL not just the interior. While I don't think anyone here is SHOCKED. He is the biggest name we have cut becaue of his experience but also a good indication that we have improved the OL. Schlotman is a decent depth guy never a guy you really want to start. So that is a good sign when we feel good enough that we can cut those types of players. The big bonus for Schlotman is his versatility not exactly his upside.

I think one thing many people forget about when playing the "what if" game, is that the difference between many players having a 12 plus year career and a 3 year career is the situation and development they get drafted into. Once a team drafts you and you move on from that team for pennies to another team your value to your next team is so much less. (Not talking about the obvious cases but referring to a high draft pick who may not have worked out for his first team). Your second team isn't going to give you time to develop because they haven't invested into you. Sure there are players who are going to succeed wherever they go but then you have a guy like Josh Rosen who has all the tools but now since Arizona gave up on him after 1 year for Kyler Murray nobody is really taking Rosen under their wing to give him time to develop. He just keeps bouncing around with good tools because nobody he has landed on has invested into him. making him less likely to succeed because teams are going to be even a lot less patient with him now they are taking what he is and now what he could be because they aren't the team that invested an early pick into him. Look at a guy like Richard Sherman who has had a great NFL career. If the wrong team drafts him in man to man coverage and not a press scheme who knows if he is even in the NFL. His man to man team probably gives up on him early who knows if he lands on the right press coverage team.

Doesn't a player have to accounted for in the 53 prior to moving to the IR?
