All true, but to implement as much change as he did, improve the record from 4-12 to 10-6, and win the division in his first year in the league was pretty impressive. I recall that many were skeptical when he was hired. I think he showed that he is clearly capable.

Agreed, I myself was very skeptical of the hire, and his offense was pretty damn impressive, I think the rankings is based on "was he a one year wonder". I'm excited for this season, the division should be ours again, lets see how it goes...

IMO, John Harbaugh is a lot like Barry Switzer. Got a NFL team loaded with talent that probably could have made the playoffs without a coach.

Harbaugh lost half the defense and he didn't do anything. He really didn't build anything in Baltimore. IMO,

1. Belichick
2. Payton
3. Carroll
4. Jim Harbaugh
5. McCarthy

I was kinda thinking the same thing about Tomlin. He inherited a Super Bowl winning team with a lot of talent. I'm not saying he's not a good coach but I'm not sold that he's a top 10 at this point.

Yeah, I wouldn't put him top 10 either.

The thing about Tomlin is that he is young. He might not be a top 10 guy but he is still going to be coaching 10+ years from now and he has all of the experience he needs

Agreed and he will undoubtedly improve as he gains more experience.

Jim Harbaugh is above his brother despite never beating him head to head and losing to him in a Super Bowl with a more talented team? K.

It had been 8 years since they had a winning record. Not sure how that is the perfect situation.

They hadn't had a coach that was better than mediocre in 8 years either. He came into a loaded team and just didn't suck.

Also, they have Ron Rivera at 21 but Lovie Smith ( who got fired for sucking after Rivera left as DC) at 14. Wat.

Yet another list: NFL Head Coach Power Rankings: Bill Belichick reigns supreme - NFL.com

Here are the top-10

1. Belichick
2. Payton
3. Jim Harbaugh
4. John Harbaugh
5. Coughlin
6. McCarthy
7. Carroll
8. Fox
9. Tomlin
10. Reid

Thought is was interesting that Chip Kelly is ranked 18th. Only one year in Philly, but I thought it was good enough that he probably belongs a little higher on the list.
I would say that most of this ranking is off. Some not by much but I guess it has to do with the last couple of seasons. Carroll should be higher (sucks for me to post that). Coughlin should not be close to the top ten. Sean Payton should be further down the list ,maybe at 8. I won't bother with the Belichick at #1...he can cheat with the best of them and deserves the spot.As for my team ,Jim Harbaugh took a talented roster and made them a winning team along with Baalke. That being said, yes a HC can make a huge difference.

I agree.. He isn't top 10 in my book if that counts for anything. But like Clayton said, he's young and he's already experienced every aspect of being a head coach. He'll be around for a long time, whether that be in PIT or elsewhere.

When I read the segment on Jim Harbaugh... I wasn't sure if it was actually about him, or Andy Reid. :noidea:

Why is Payton #2? Yeah I know he won a SB, but so have a couple of others on the list. I think that is to high IMO.

I don't know where he belongs on the list, but the way that the Saints fell off in '12 and then rebounded in '13 when he came back suggests to me that NO is quite a bit better with him than without him.

Payton built that team from nothing. Yes, he got Drew Brees, but Brees was recovering from injury and had a huge question mark. He also did it during the time when NO was at it's worst.

And like TDs said, the 1 year he was suspended showed the huge difference.

Reason he is not #1? Belichick built Patriots from nothing to Team of the Decade. Now, the Pats are a team that look like they wouldn't make the playoffs in any other division end up winning in the playoffs.

Hate to sound like a homer here, but Carroll built the Seahawks from the ground up and he wasn't blessed with a Bree's for QB, I could make some arguments for others on this list also. Payton is being over rated IMO.
