So, I stumbled upon this while looking at 49ers webzone. It's funny if you go look at it, they set it up so that 4 of the 6 49ers teams will automatically go up against themselves once they advance to the 2nd round, and the 5th 49ers team will go up against the winner of the 4 49ers teams. (The 49ers teams all have the most votes at the moment) A really clever way of pretty much eliminating all of the 49ers best teams, since the one 49ers team that won't have to go up another 49ers team is the 1981 49ers... not one of the teams universally seen as a powerhouse.

They did the same thing for the Steelers too, put all 6 Steelers teams in the same bracket. While being really nice to the Packers and Cowboys by spreading their teams out in 3 of the 4 brackets.

I think their plan to fix a Packers VS Cowboys Final is going to blow up in their faces since obviously neither of their fans even know this is going on... because their teams are losing... because if their fans knew about this they'd be stuffing the ballots.

94 niners is hands down the best imo. excellent d combined with an offense that can hurt u in a dozen different ways. the cowboys were maybe a top 10 team all time as well.

Wrong. 89, and not close. No Steve Young team should even qualify for this discussion, to be honest.

that team with shanahan and young was really unstoppable. the wildcard on that team is deoin sanders, he just makes plays on d and in the return game.

watters and floyd in the backfield was just amazing as well.

remember that team went undefeated once we got deion

Getting 'Prime Time' was important for two reasons. It gave us the best CB in the game, but it also allowed us to move Merton Hanks to FS! Where Hanks quickly became the best FS in the game...

Anyone remember when ESPN did a big version of this.....must have been in the 90s. They put together a big tournament of the best all-time teams, then showed each "game" by splicing together old NFL Films clips that had the two teams playing each other, like they were highlights of that matchup. Of course it was all kind of goofy - they'd show like a 1983 Joe Montana pass, then it would cut and a 1993 Jerry Rice would catch it......but it was still pretty cool. Might have been called the Dream Bowl or something.

None of the Niners teams won.......I can't remember, but I think they gave it to the 85 Bears. They seem to generally be the top choice in things like this.

Ha.....good old internet:

NFL Films and ESPN showed NFL Dream Season for six weeks in 1989. Theprogram aired on Sunday nights during the first half of the NFL season, and helped to promote ESPN Sunday Night Football. (At the time, there were no live games on Sunday nights at that point in the season. NFL on TNT launched the following year.)

The show consisted of simulations of a mini-season featuring 20 of the top NFL teams from 1950 to 1988. There was no limit as to how many teams a franchise could have, and indeed three had two teams each. I suspect the producers used a computer program similar to WhatIfSports to run the "games."

One feature game was "played" each week, and Chris Berman had a studio segment recapping the rest of the action.

Each team had six regular season games. The four division winners moved on to the semifinals and eventually an all-time champion was produced. The 1978 Steelers beat the 1972 Dolphins to win the title.

The following year, after the emergence of the 1989 49ers as another of the outstanding teams, the series was revived for a bonus episode. (On the 1990 episode, Charley Steiner replaced Merrill Reese as the play-by-play announcer.)

The results were published in The Pro Football Chronicle, co-written by Dan Daly.
This info is from p264-266 of The Pro Football Chronicle.

Note: While the book contains scores for each regular season game, I am choosing to simply show the wins for each team in shorthand notation (by listing which teams each one defeated).
