As if the Devils drafting Stephane Matteau's kid wasn't ironic enough already. Now he could be teammates with Martin Brodeur's kid.

He has some pretty massive steps to follow...the pressure would be too much for most.

I know. First he has to find a wife with a hot sister.

Had actually forgotten where Marty went in the draft so I looked.

1990 NHL Entry Draft Picks at hockeydb.com

Great pick with Shawn Antoski 2 before, Vancouver. And the one just before that was even better.

7th round pick should tell you.

Looking at late round pick goalies
Khabbulin - 9th round 92.
Manny Legace - 8th round 93
Hedberg and Nabokov - 9th 94
Lundqvist - 7th 2000
Darth Gerber - 8th 01
Halak - 9th 03
Rinne - 8th 04

Always tough being the kid of a famous/successful athlete re: fan expectations. No matter how good that you do, if it doesn't match up to what daddy did, too many fans will call still your career a 'bust'.

Ill drop this here because its prob. appropriate ... Trevor Gretzky

has a rookie league player ever had that many mics up in his grill?

Wayne ended up watching his son play sat and sunday ... as they mention in the video, Wayne has managed to watch his son play in all the small towns in the league ... has just stepped up to the ticket booths prior to gametime, bought his ticket, and no-one has noticed/recognized him (except of course ... in vancouver)

I think with the way the Devils did it, mostly everybody knows he was drafted more for symbolic reasons than his actual potential to be good.

True: But if he does develop into a respectable player, then the Devils get the added bonus of being able to claim; "We knew that this would happen all along." :)

As to jstew's example of Gretsky's kid: He might get a bit more of a 'pass' since he chose a different sport that his father. - Only time will tell.

yah i know ... i just wanted to show that in his case, you could say there are ZERO expectations (amongst the public anyways) with regards to his baseball career ... yes it helps that he's not playing hockey ... he's in a sport where his dad (in most markets that Trevor is currently playing in) is amazingly, almost unknown

he came to a hockey market this weekend and what he faced was questions mostly about his dad, then his sister and then his baseball career
