Yeah, you don't get to accuse me of that bullshit. If you want to join the conversation Mecca and I are having like a grownup, you're welcome to. But you can take this childish bullshit someplace else.
Accuse you of being focused on something that isn’t really an issue because it doesn’t occur very often? Or just me comparing it to a glaring problem that doesn’t get addressed or handled well in America? I mean one is actually a thing. The other is overstated and more often than not will only be applicable for people with fuck you money. Why is out of bounds for me to juxtapose what bothers you about this issue to what bothers me about this issue?

Wish you had the same energy for all of the victims of r*pe in America who never get justice. You’re worried about the car lacking fancy rims. You’re ignoring the broken engine. Your idea is going to have the unintended consequences of making a bad situation worse for victims.
Devils advocate, my friend....

You are a teacher, correct?

I have worked in corrections, behavioral health for adults and children facilities.

On every job application, they typically ask some variation of the same questions.

Have you ever been arrested , charged, convicted of a sex crime.?

If so, when and why.....

I guarantee you you're not.getting that job if there is a equally qualified candidate.

I'm with you that such a law would make even fewer women report these disgusting violations.

But, we can't just hand wave or shrug our shoulders when people are falsely accused.

Just establish that it’s actually a problem is what I’m saying. Hypotheticals are fun but to me this rings like all the pearl clutching about election integrity. People want to add more hoops to jump through for something that isn’t even a real problem that needs to be addressed. It’s fantasy land. It’s not an issue at all.

I don't think its a epidemic.

But, it does happen.

I'm not saying it's on par with putting a innocent person to death.

But, the fact that its happened once, is one time too many.

I'm sure you are aware that there have been instances were women have been convicted for false accusations.

....and they should be.

Accusing your husband/boyfriend of r*pe in retaliation of a breakup is deplorable.

Agsin: I would not be in favor of making laws that would intimidate people into not reporting crimes.

But, If the person is lying they should face punitive actions and should reimburse the courts and the accused.

Last chance to participate as a grownup.

Not even sure what I did. Was it the juxtaposition that bothered you?

You crossed a line. I have a wife, 3 daughters and a sister. To say what you did re: caring about violence against women is never going to be okay. Wanting to make sure that a victimized woman and an innocent man both get justice is not mutually exclusive. As a matter of fact, in theory, that is exactly how our justice system is supposed to work. Even if it often doesn't.

Ok. I’ll clean up the phrasing of what I said. In real world practice, you can’t have both. If we ramp up prosecution of false claims and we make that a focus the unintended consequence of that focus is going to make the greater problem ( in terms of sheer numbers; not in a moral sense; both actions are immoral) even worse with fewer women coming forward and more men walking away Scott free from sexual assaults they’ve committed.

That still doesn't justify not trying to get justice for both. There is no perfect solution, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to get as close as possible.

Something tells me that if you ever found yourself on the wrong side of a false accusation, the numbers wouldn't be nearly as important to you.

Already have. Had drunken sex with a college friend in 1996. We were both drunk.

Prison time was never an issue. Went before a disciplinary board and won.

Bet the possibility of prison time would have changed the game.

I've never been falsely accused, but one of my best friends was. The woman never went to the police, but it cost him some friendships and he ended up having to find another church to attend. She eventually came clean, but for some folks, it didn't matter.

Nope. Not worth it. It’s not even a problem. People just perceive it as such. Upwards of 95% of accusations are on the money. That doesn’t result in convictions. So here’s what happens when you codify that stupid shit into law:
1. Victims of r*pe will end up getting abused again by the system because a conviction wasn’t attained. That’s salt in a wound.
2. The reality is that most who come forward will get no recompense or justice to begin with in our system as is. Even fewer women will come forward when they run the risk of having to do jail time because r*pe is often a he said she said.

The whole belief that women come forward with false accusations to the point where it’s a problem is yet another example of r*pe culture in America. It’s disgusting to think that society would turn even further away from providing these victims justice. Now we’re making them criminals on top of that. This idea is Corky Thatcher level retarded.
I mean, it already is a law that they can be prosecuted if they purger themselves. You want to take that away, too?

If it rarely happens what's the problem with prosecuting those who lie (which they can anyway with a perjury charge)?

If it's not an issue at all why so up in arms about it? If someone is so concerned about being brought up for lying about a r*pe there's a simple solution. Don't lie about a r*pe.
