If I knew who Green Bay's replacement would be, I could make a lot of money in Vegas; it's yet to be determined of course. However, judging what Green Bay will look like moving forward without Rodgers based on what they looked like with his back-up playing (often without a lot of first team reps) and with his salary still on their cap and not used elsewhere is NOT a good or fair indicator.

Again, who is going to run away with that division if Rodgers isn't there? Nobody, unless Green Bay gets a strong replacement for Rodgers. Otherwise all teams have a shot at that division, especially the Packers IMO.
So, the Packers could still win by far (NFC East could argue) the weakest division of all-time. I'll tell you, having your team be a consistent Super Bowl contender, while at least making a few conference title trips, going to "hey, at least we won the division." is still sobering. Especially when you know you have zero shot to win in the playoffs.

Also, Aaron Rodgers is arguably the best QB in the league. Part of what allowed GB to snatch up these number 1 seeds in large part was because of him. Take a look around the league and you're not replacing Rodgers with a QB similar to him in production (Mahomes as an example). You'll see that Rodgers covered up a lot of warts with how the roster was constructed.

There's also the matter of Rodgers' salary being spent elsewhere on the roster to bolster the team.
Aaron Rodgers cap hit is due to having one of the best QBs on the roster. In fact, he was playing for below his value. Spreading that around the rest of the roster, while not having a QB, doesn't exactly bode well for your title hopes.

2017, they're not relying on Brett Hundley anymore, and Rodgers' salary would be invested elsewhere on the roster. If Love proves to be as awful as Brett Hundley, sure they could sink pretty far. I don't think anyone is expecting that.
Jordan Love's not that good. Green Bay knows this as well. Otherwise, they would be glad to move off of Rodgers.

He's also not as bad as Hundley (and they won some games with Hundley) and may not end up the starter either way. Rodgers isn't walking, he will be traded for other assets which may or may not impact this year's roster. He has dead cap of $26M+ for 2022 (his cap # is $46M+if he stays). That's ~$20M difference in cap space to work with.

If I'm the Packers, I get on the phone to the Niners, do a Rogers for Garropolo deal and draft a QB.

saw that Chiefs game with Jordan Love. unfortunately he's got "journeyman" written all over him judging by that...

But that's not an ideal evaluation situation either. How much work did Love get to prepare to be the starter? Plus, that was the first game for the Chiefs since acquiring Ingram, who really helped their defensive balance, helping free up other pass rushers.

Maybe make a Garropolo trade separate from the Rodgers trade, but I wouldn't send him to SF. Get him out of the NFC if possible (Denver still seems like the move). Then trade a day 2 pick or two for Garropolo (not both this year if it takes 2 picks).

Of course, but are you also letting Adams go? They just anted up at RB too. To rebuild instead of reload is too drastic a move at this juncture IMO. Brady is gone (so far, lol), so the NFC is still largely up for grabs. SF has their QB issues to work through, Rams have to deal with all the fall out from winning (players and coaches), Dallas is still a mess, etc.

Unfortunately not a great draft for QB's this go-round. maybe next draft...?

Either way works. Garropolo can play, but he can't stay healthy, but yeah, they could definitely hold off on drafting a QB until next year. Also, if there is an interesting QB prospect that you can get in a later round...maybe do that and then look to draft a better one next time?

I mean, most QBs drafted late first don't amount to much.

Leaving out the obvious one, in recent memory (and still active) we still have Wilson, Prescott, Cousins, Garrapolo, and Carr before you get to Minshew, Fitz, Heinicke, Dalton, and Hurts (some retreads and two younger guys with some promise). Davis Mills has been decent for the Texans and could stick.

That's fabulous, but far more drafted late first (or even early) who did not work out.

I agree with Dan Orlovsky.

The Saints should try and trade for Russell Wilson. They have a legit running game (assuming Kamara doesn't go serve some time) and a really good defense. You get a legit QB and they are as good as any team in the NFC.

Except…

The 9ers have their QB of the future.

They very may well be willing to deal Garrapolo, but they are going to want draft capital.
