I agree which is why I think they should adopt the college rule on dpi. 15 yard penalty and leave it at that.
I think you’d see more mugging then when a guy gets beat. Would rather give up 15 than 40. Honestly, there’s never going to be a perfect way to do this. It’s a give and take thing. The only thing I feel is warranted is calling out a lack of consistency throughout the game. I feel like officials should set a standard for what will be permitted early on and that officiate to that standard. That’s the stuff that bothers me in all sports.

Is Murray that guy? I feel like he’s been anointed. He’s got incredible gifts but it takes more than that to be the man.

Too many crucial calls are being missed in the secondary. They need to fix this especially with DPI being a spot penalty. Can't have the offense getting a free 40 or 50 yards on some bogus DPI. Also cant have refs missing easy calls at the end of game that decides who win or lose. It just not right

They added reviews on PI calls a couple years ago, but it was pointless since they almost never reversed the call on the field.

Because the refs were instructed to pretty much never overturn calls. I think it can work if they have an open mind and you limit it to booth reviews only

Glad I'm not a browns fan. I would be livid. Lame ass refs took away a chance for them to attempt the game winning fg
It was definitely annoying as was a perfect pass had he not been held. Would we have scored? sure would have liked to find out but cannot be sure...though had plenty of time. shaky kicker, though, so that would not have helped.

Do have to wonder why no runs once at 50 with 3 TOs left. did call a screen.

What sucks most about this loss (and the last one) is really thought in both we were done only to get back in and have a serious chance to steal either of them and couldn't get it done.

Just not our year.

Sure. It should have been called.

And there were many other calls throughout the game that the officials got right.

But you (and others) choose to focus on a small number that they got wrong.

Sure, these calls can impact outcomes of games. But human refs will never be anywhere close to 100%.

And unless you want to make officiating 100% automated and with camera replays, this is never going to change.

Again, because the NFL officials are the best at doing that particular job.
someone wants to complain louder about calls like that one I get it as missing that and it's game over (not just saying as went against my team), but agree with you it's an incredibly difficult sport to officiate.....and, hell, even if they get it right it's certainly no lock we win.

I cant even talk about it.

The Browns have made their own problems so many times this year. They have lost games on the last possession to the Chiefs, Chargers, Steelers, Ravens, Raiders and Packers. 6 games. They just win 3 of those and they are in prime position. Just TWO of them and they are in great shape.

But the fact is that this game and the Chargers game they got fucked by egregious calls that every single person who saw the plays had to agree were just awful calls in the last couple minutes that had a material impact on the game. And that sucks.

Admittedly I don't recall the one against the LAC.....and, really, just one of the last 2 and we are in good shape (or 1 of the 6). I'd have been confident at 10-7 we were in if 2 of the wins were against Cinci and Steelers.

As i said it get more infuriating when I've pretty much accepted defeat only to get excited and have to accept it again in a game we had a good chance to win.

I can't sit and lament over missed opportunities. It's obviously not their year.

Still have a very outside shot at playoffs with Cincy beating Baltimore pitt beating Baltimore, and Pitt and Baltimore, cincy losing every other game but obviously looks pretty bleak.

They may win a 3 way tie breaker over cincy and Baltimore but not 100 percent

Made the same comment yesterday. Game script dictated that the Browns didn’t have to get pass happy. They likely needed another 25 yards with about 1:30 left and 3 time outs. Man…feed Chubb Stefanski.

The refs don't suck and no one here could do any better. Hell, most on here crying couldn't even do as well as the replacement refs.

As @tlance said, they have an impossible job. I'd add to that...their job has been made even more impossible by the rules changes and size, speed and athleticism of the players..

Often times, these refs are trying to make calls when they are several yards away from the play and there are other players in the area that can block their view. The refs could all run 4.3 forties and they still would be yards away most of the time because of the area they have to cover.

And it seemed like they were getting 7+ yards every time they ran the ball, no matter who had the ball. Hell, I could have averaged 5 yards a carry with the way the Browns o-line was blocking yesterday. lol
