I prefer most deserving teams over who they think are the best teams because the best team argument is bullshit. You can make a tremendous case that Ohio State and Georgia should be in as well if we are talking about "best teams"

Why stop at Alabama?

Because the committee is balancing two important considerations... rather than solely going by one or the other.

If the committee had UGA in the Top 4 too (or some other conception of only the best teams)... then you'd have a better point.

No. It's supposed to be about the most deserving teams and this year actually set up to be one of, if not the easiest, year to make the selections.

You had 3 unbeaten P5 conference champions and two 1 loss P5 conference champions who played each other.

You take the 3 undefeated conference champs and the team that won the head2head game between the other 2 and call it a day.

When the committee met, it should have taken longer to shake hands and say Hi than to decide which teams were in.

Yup the conversation changed earlier this week and the word best started being used

I'm curious about this "deserving" argument... it being the be-all-end-all (apparently).

Why is it a rule that this is the one and only factor? Why can't another factor (such as selecting the best teams at the end of the year) also be a consideration too?

Personally, I thought the committee balanced the two considerations as best they could.

(I also think that if the FSU QB hadn't have been injured, FSU would have been in the top 4)

Anywho... we'll see how FSU does in their bowl game. That will be the only thing beyond talk that will help settle the debate.

Because there are certain things that teams are, for lack of a better term, "asked to do" in order to show that they "deserve" to be in.

A quick "list" would be something like...win all your games, win your conference championship, don't load up on cupcakes in your OOC games.

There are some other criteria that can be used for situations where a team or teams didn't do all that they were "asked to do" to determine who is deserving, or to "seed" teams, but those listed are the main ones.

FSU won all of their games, they won their conference championship and while they did play a couple of cupcakes OOC, they also played LSU and Florida.

They beat Florida with their back up QB and then won their conference championship game with their 3rd string QB.

I'd say that's "deserving".

What happened to FSU would be like the NBA coming to the Celtics before the playoffs and saying "Yeah, we know you have the best record in the East, but Tatum is out with an injury so you're not going to be able to be in the playoffs this year".
