Um? That happened earlier in his tenure.Chip has them at the Terry Donahue Bruin days or on the cusp anyway. They were a lot of 7-5 to 9-3 teams that would occasionally have a 10-11 win season, challenge for the PAC title and win the USC/UCLA game once every 3-4 years.
Terry Donahue years would get a USC football coach fired, but he coached UCLA for 20 years and is considered their best coach.
Meanwhile, Ben Howland got fired as UCLA's hoops coach despite something like 3 straight final 4 appearances and winning the PAC. If a USC basketball coach does that...they'll give him a lifetime contract and put up a statue outside Galen Center. lol
2 of Howland's last 4 years they did not even make the Tourney. And the other 2 seasons they were bounced early. And in his 5th to last year there they went 26-9 and got bounced early. So 3 of his last 5 years were not very good. He started hot in his UCLA coaching career but faded over the last 5.
