Yeah....forgot about that in March.

3 of the last 4 losses though....just irritating.

Maybe if he struggles next season they think about it but after a 6-2 start I was expecting something better than 7-5.

After a 6-0 start, I was expecting better than 7-5 too. lol

Upon further review, I don't understand the "Fire Chip Kelly" stuff. I know it took a little longer than expected for him to start winning, but he's had 3 straight winning seasons now and is still building them.

If they were expecting "Oregon results", that was never going to happen, at least not as quickly. Oregon had already been quietly building themselves up when the Pete Carroll era was happening at USC. Chip just finished the process.

They've had a couple of "inexplicable losses", but it's the PAC, those happen. Especially when you're building a program. Cal isn't as bad a loss as it seems. They lost 6 games and 5 of them were to PAC teams ranked in the top 25. The other was to Auburn by 4.

Plus, didn't they just extend him?
It’s a thing because UCLA thinks they’re a better program and destination than what they actually are.

I'd add to that when you're trying to build up a program in a sport that the school isn't "known for", the process tends to take longer. UCLA is a hoops school, so they aren't "top of mind" for most football recruits.

Andy Enfield has been dealing with the same thing at USC for quite a while. USC is a football school, so it has taken him some time, but USC has finally reached a point where they can now expect to be among the top 4 or 5 teams in the conference and be in the NCAA tourney convo most years rather than just hoping that maybe they can "sneak in". lol

Total BS.

UCLA is a lot like Kentucky. Baskeball school where it is not impossible to be relevant in football if they have the right coach.

UCLA loses a lot of players to Oregon and Washington, among other schools (USC)......lot of quality football players that should be recruited better in Los Angeles, not to mention Northern California. Going to the Big 18 or whatever it will be called will only help recruiting.

Definitely something to be said for "knowing who you are". A school can certainly excel at more than 1 sport, they just have to know that building up the other teams is going to take a little more time than in the sport they're known for.

It’s why Nebraska died. They thought they were better than Frank Solich and Bo Pelini. They’d give anything to be the 10 win program those two had going.

I think that's basically what he's saying. Chip Kelly has arguably the best resume of any football coach they have ever hired. They need to patient enough to give him time to get a team full of "his type of players".

In short, the need to trust his resume.

That’s like 40 years ago now.
Nah, he retired in 1995. Hope you're not a math teacher.

Dan Guerrero's dumb ass could never hire a good enough coach to replace him. So glad when his dumb ass retired. He came over from UC Irvine and could never find the right guy. Until he brought in Kelly.

UCLA has had a myriad of coaches that have been successful in other stops. It is what it is.

Maybe, it's just frustating when we started well and faded this season.

fightin should understand what I am saying since ND is the exact opposite......football school but it is not impossible to field a good basketball team since they are in the shadow of the football team and they should be able to recruit well enough to be a solid team. Like Mike Brey did a pretty good job with their hoops team before he retired.

Donahue never won a national title and really only had one or two squads that actually was in the mix for a national title.

There is no excuse UCLA can't return to the Terry Donahue Bruin days.

Chip has them at the Terry Donahue Bruin days or on the cusp anyway. They were a lot of 7-5 to 9-3 teams that would occasionally have a 10-11 win season, challenge for the PAC title and win the USC/UCLA game once every 3-4 years.

Terry Donahue years would get a USC football coach fired, but he coached UCLA for 20 years and is considered their best coach.

Meanwhile, Ben Howland got fired as UCLA's hoops coach despite something like 3 straight final 4 appearances and winning the PAC. If a USC basketball coach does that...they'll give him a lifetime contract and put up a statue outside Galen Center. lol

This is just you providing reasoning to eventually come to the same conclusion that I have. UCLA is what they are. They aren’t a destination program. They’re a 7-9 win team at their ceiling. They’re not a team that consistently be in the top 10-15 year in and year out.
