Meh, baseball=watching paint dry. Stopped watching after the Steroid scandal anyhow...

Football and Basketball? Fuck yeah, I'm there...
I’ll watch baseball deep in the playoffs. Used to be my sport but I can’t handle all the strikeouts now days.

I stopped baseball after Albert Bell and Sammy Sosa. That homerun contest for the record was lit. Haven't really watched baseball since. It's too long. I usually catch a little of the world series every year like a few innings tho i guess lol

Idk man, Ohio St can put up some points but two things. ND always has a solid defense that can keep them in games and new defense coordinator for Ohio St- first game going to take some time for players to adjust.
His former team and staff just did prep for ND for their bowl game. And he’s a pretty damn good defensive mind. I think both offenses will make plays but a young signal caller will make mistakes on the road and I see that being the difference in the game. Beware of the Day 2nd Q. Not sure what it is about that quarter but in his tenure, OSU has absolutely dominated. He and the staff must be very good developing “answers” each week to adjust to what they think the D could do and then when they see one quarter of the plan, they then exploit it before the opponent can regroup at halftime.

ND will get them on the return trip next year when OSU is the team breaking in the new QB and ND’s most highly recruited talent are now Sophs and Juniors in 2023.

At least it is two teams not afraid to schedule a tough ooc game

That’s why I’m an “expand the playoffs” guy. When you can overcome an early loss and take one in the conference and still have a shot at being an at large team, you can schedule these tough games. Then it becomes instructive playing good vs good in a real situation. Teams will take this on to be more playoff ready.

Haha @WiggyRuss and I were talking Bohm’s lack of power today and he just hit a 3 run Hr. You are more than welcome to speak truth to power on Jalen Hurts. I need a negative comment on that guy daily for any shot for him to even be decent.

Yep.

My initial argument was have all conference Champs go plus at large but with the shake ups I'm not sure anymore. But to me 8 is ideal. Give me better games

I like 8. I would also be ok with 10 similar to the NBA play in.

They're talking about eliminating some shifts at least
Honestly I don’t like this. All it would take to get rid of the shifts is showing you can hit the other way a few times.

Analytics has ruined baseball. Everything now is a walk, a strike out, or a home run.
Yep back in the day it was fun watching the truly great pure hitters. Hope to see one now in Steven Kwan. Not sure why I think of Dustin Pedroia as another guy but another guy I think of recently who wasn’t a great player but a great hitter imo. I miss that

I’m spoiled. I grew up watching Tony Gwynn. Best pure hitter I’ve ever seen. He made hitting look easy. After that, I would go Bonds, and then Pujols.

Yep gotta respect that. I hope ND joins the B1G. Always a battle playing them. I think they would fit the B1G in that sense. Great defensive teams that are just gritty
Writing is on the wall. There’s going to be two conferences and ND is more likely to be B10 than SEC.
ND Pitt North Carolina Duke are B10. Miami Clemson Ga Tech FSU VT are SEC.

Each conference will be like 24 teams and you will see 6 four team scheduling pods in each conference that are regional or even 4 six team scheduling pods.

ND can be patient and watch it shake out but I think the pick is going to be B10 in the end.

Ohh yeah Gwynn was special. Even further back Pete Rose. Bonds was a beast. He literally did everything. I just mention Pedroia bc I don’t consider him anything close to a great player but he was a great timely hitter and was so clutch. There were others. Bonds is easily the best hitter I’ve witnessed but he is also the 2nd best player of all-time. I would go with Ted and Babe as the best pure hitters of all-time though

That’s what makes baseball discussions fun. I think more so than the other sports there is a higher level of respect for the ones we didn’t see in the sport like Ted and the Babe.

I saw Pete at the end of his career and loved the way he played the game. Broke my heart when all the gambling stuff came out. It ruined what was a perfect image for winning and laying it all on the line. Really tarnished that.

I was young but I remember watching Pete Rose. In terms of pure hitters I have to also mention George Brett and Kirby Puckett. Some guys the crack of the bat just sounds different, that was Puckett.
