It might.....weird they call it an appeal.
it is weird- its just so freaking weird. The whole thing is just so poorly done. You make up the definitions and punishments as you go and appeal to yourself. It is the same old sham its always been- Roger Goodell judge, jury and executioner, not making decisions on evidence but on public opinion.

Goodell should not hand this off to anyone, he should take it on himself.

Have to think the players got something monetarily by agreeing to this. Owners wanted power and not money.

They can ask for it to be heard, yes. What we have here is a federal judge choosing to draw attention to the NFLs horrible record on things like this. She flat out said this case is worse than anything they ever had. She is forcing them to reverse course and make it known that going forward this stuff is serious. No court worth it’s salt will involve itself in something where the agreed to language is so clear.

Yes she said it was important for the NFL to have a clear definition of what the penalties of behavior are. As with performance enhancing drugs and gambling there is a clear pattern as to how each offense is handled.

I mean they want both but the NFL PA is very weak...its a bunch of guys who are mostly not very bright with super short careers. I mean- look at Watson- on the field he is brilliant- off of it? not exactly a rocket scientist. lol. Its why the guys like Peyton Manning with half a brain stick out so much.

at this point- yes- if he is going to overturn a former federal judge who took weeks of analysis to get to her opinion- he should just wear it at this point.

It definitely is strange that Goodell has never really developed, or learned from his mistakes on how he handles and passes down punishments. He's absolutely tone deaf in his role, which, you'd think being the commission of the most lucrative major sport league he'd have put more effort in adapting by now.

Goodell handling it himself is how they got into this mess in the first place. Had he handled these kinds of issues with any competency whatsoever, he wouldn't have to make himself look stupid by appealing the decision of the arbiter that he agreed to use to himself.

This...imo will be a larger issue than Deshaun Watson as they file it.

you would think you would have someone supremely talented. Being the commissioner of the NFL and making 50 million a year is just incredible.....and you get this? Its so underwhelming.

I find it pretty funny (peculiar, not HaHa) that folks are focused on the arbiter when the reason for this is Goodell's incompetence in handling these issues.

And those same folks are counting on him to now fix it

I agree it’s a mess the NFL is complicit in. Hopefully this will be a from this point on moment, if it’s not then they should have just gone with the 6 games.

I think the NFL is making a mistake in appealing this. They could have issued a statement saying that they don't agree with arbiters decision, but will abide by it since they agreed to it.

Then they could have worked with the NFLPA to define these issues and assign punishments with real teeth.

Now, if the NFLPA really does sue the NFL and even if they are ultimately lose, Watson likely gets a restraining order allowing him to play in all games this season and the NFL gets a hearing that is probably going to drag this out for another year or more. During that time, Goodell's failures on this will be dragged out into the public again.

I could be wrong but I’m not seeing a court get involved. The language is just too clear cut.
