That's nearly a $77M jump, more than doubling their current payroll. Do you really see that happening? They're currently 27th.
Not in one season but I could see it once the new minority owner has bought in more. We were league avg. in 2016 and 2017.

Sure, they may buy some unheralded role player for a few mil. I wouldn't expect any news worthy transactions however. They don't appear willing to pony up big money to any of their young players. Arbitration or trade.
Sean Murphy could be had but probably for a couple prospects. Not sure they would do that will Bo Naylor waiting. I mean other than the teams that are big spenders, I don’t see anything crazy for most teams

That takes time considering they just got a new minority owner (25%) if they do spend more it would be gradually and over time. I don't see anything drastic over the next couple years but it just depends on the move. Just a couple years ago they had one of the weakest outfields, now they have a ton of talent at the MLB level and minors. Like I said, grabbing a catcher could be a move but they are pretty much set on MI, OF, SP, RP for years to come so from that aspect they will try to develop and save money. Maybe if they see a win now move they make it. They don't need to double their payroll at this point, even if they make a "big move" they will still be below average.

I actually see Plesac or Civale being traded over Bieber. Those are guys that are more replaceable.

Barring some "sophomore slumps" next season we definitely look better in the OF than we did coming into the season. IF does seem set with JRam, Rosario, Giminez and I guess Naylor (or Miller)? Kwan and Straw could be fine but another OF bopper would be nice. question is could he come from the system and how soon could he be here?

If they are getting no traction with an extension and are overwhelmed with an offer I could see moving Bieber. could he go downhill fast like Kluber did?

Will Brennan or Will Benson could be one of those guys.

@Shanemansj13 @dtgold88 I know you guys dont have theAthletic (at least I think y ou dont)- here are some good blurbs from that article:

Will Brennan, OF

If you don’t know much about Brennan, you aren’t alone. He wasn’t listed on Keith Law’s Cleveland top 20 or in the honorable mentions of his preseason rankings. Brennan is No. 29 on MLB Pipeline’s ranking of the organization’s top 30 prospects.

But, well, he boasts a .375 batting average for Columbus. Yeah, it might be time to take notice. Consider the damage Brennan has done in 2022 …

Brennan at Akron: .311/.382/.504 slash line in 36 games, 17 walks, 16 strikeouts

Brennan at Columbus: .375/.452/.528 slash line in 34 games, 20 walks, 23 strikeouts

In all, that’s a .344/.418/.516 slash line with 13 stolen bases and nearly as many walks as strikeouts. So, who is this guy? Cleveland selected Brennan in the eighth round of the 2019 draft out of Kansas State. The team’s evaluators fawned over his elite contact skills, similar to another outfielder they drafted a year earlier named Steven Kwan. They encouraged Brennan to deliver more aggressive swings when it made sense to do so (often when ahead in the count), and the approach has paid dividends. Brennan’s seven home runs in 2022 match his total from the two previous seasons combined, and he has already amassed 25 doubles in 70 games this season.

George Valera, OF

Valera has become appointment viewing for many in the organization.

“I think people might want to start paying attention to that same degree,” Cerfolio said.

The front office has held numerous discussions about when the time might arrive to promote Valera to Columbus. At the moment, Jones, Will Brennan, Will Benson and Alex Call occupy the Clippers’ three outfield spots and the designated hitter role. So, for now, Valera is stuck at Akron, where he’s three years younger than the average Double-A player yet boasts a slash line of .284/.389/.514.

Daniel Espino, SP

Espino struck out an absurd 51.5 percent of the poor, hapless, unassuming batters he faced. That’s 35 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings, including 11 in a row to begin one of his outings.

Espino will always pile up strikeouts because of his arsenal, which Cerfolio described as “some of the best stuff on Planet Earth,” but if he can consistently throw strikes, that’ll translate as he climbs from level to level. Granted, as Cerfolio noted, “That’s nitpicking for someone who can do what he can do as a 21-year-old. It’s pretty exciting to think about what he can be.”

Espino, Cleveland’s first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft out of high school, lost out on a 2020 season. To squeeze in more development, he took up meditation and yoga. The organization is enamored with his maturity and worth ethic. And here’s something you surely were dying to know: When he’s not making radar guns malfunction, Espino also plays piano.

right....

Kwan looks like a stud leadoff man.. great obp...never strikes out....he will grow into a little more power. .370 obp right now in baseball is really really good.

Jones has been great- I dont expect him to be .300/.400 obp- but geez- he is showing why he was athe Guards #1 rated prospect for a long time.

I think- for better or worse, STraw is our CF for a long time. They gave him that extension- and Francona loves his defense - which is elite elite.

I am telling you- I think the move is Murphy at catcher.....Naylor skipped high A....struggled at AA last year- and has been good this year, but I still think he is a ways off.

Murphy is a top level catcher aand has some pop. Even if Naylor is just the backup catcher- man......we would go from having one of the worst catching situations in baseball- to one of the best.

Best receiving corp he ever played with as well. As long as he is healthy, I expect 90 plus catches and over 1100+ yards

If he's playing with the best wrs of his career, wouldn't that imply lost targets to those players?

As with any injured player, need to see it on the field first of course.

As DJ mentioned, that looming suspension for Kamara will hurt too, one more defender out of the box.

Will be interesting to see for sure.

Kamara gets charged with a felony

Watson does not even get charged with a misdemeanor.

That is impressive.

Indians are getting scouting and drafting right.
Still a backbreaker their owner will not spend in the end. Every team loses players and/or trade top players at some point but also pay players. The Indians don't pay them other than exceptions. The way they develop and make trades they could be in contention to win a world series year in and year out if they were spenders as well. That is the frustrating part.
