I disagree. Unless there is some bonafide proof that Dipoto has no leverage to increase payroll, then I say it is on him. We have five holes in the offense going into the 2024 off-season/2025 opening day: 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, DH, and 4th outfielder. Does ANYONE who posts regularly in here actually think that Dipoto is going to increase payroll significantly to improve those five positions? Because, only a significant payroll increase will get the job done.

another reason we're nowhere forever is that even if owners opened up the coffers, this team has to significantly overpay to get anything above league average offense. every decent semi-marquee player FA signing we've gotten for a couple decades has only come here because we paid them way more than other clubs would. there aren't many who have even been willing to sign, so go back and look for yourself. garver was never going to be anything good or great, but you think any other teams were offering him triple his previous salary for 2 full years guaranteed compared to the rangers? he's been in the bigs for how many years and played how many total games? agents know where to peddle their dogshit, too.
