Only took two months and 60 games, but Julio is finally starting to be more selective at the plate. And his OPS immediately starts rising. I hope he connects the dots.

Julio should stop trying to force things.. just let the hits come naturally.. that said, the rest of the team's batting absolutely sucks ass, so I understand why he's trying so hard to be the savior/leader of helping get runs on the board. Lot of pressure for a kid his age. It'd be really nice if we had another veteran decent bat... Seattle has enough good pitching (and D honestly) that you can sacrifice some D for some positions...

They said after they fired their offensive coordinator ( I still laugh at that title in baseball ) that they were being told to play the way they were.

I've said this all year, but I put 100% of Julio's struggles on the staff because we saw his eye and ability to hold off on marginal pitches his entire rookie season.

It's the teams stupid analytics that have twisted them all up. They fired the OC and went back to letting them look for their pitch.

It hasn't seemed to reduce their K's, but their overall averages and scoring are trending up.

Interesting observation. Their scoring is definitely up.

March - 2.5 RPG
April - 3.7 RPG
May - 3.7 RPG
June - 4.8 RPG

They've also faced some weak pitching staffs in June (Angels, As, White Sox, Rangers) but I think overall the improved offense is benefitting from multiple factors including those you mentioned.

Gilby - 88 pitches (62 strikes), 6K's, no runs, and no walks through 7 innings. Pretty fucking strong day.

Can't remember who said it, but they said they drastically simplified what they were asking them to do and they were responding. I think a few of them appreciated the extra detail they were getting, but they were definitely overthinking things at the plate and were often just utterly lost.

Cal has certainly enjoyed a holiday from the analytics bullshit.

8.5 game lead. Biggest lead in the division for the M's since 2001.

How long until we start to feel more comfortable with this team?

I've been afraid to say this team is good, I know when I do they will crash back down. so Dipoto sucks!

The Cleveland series will give us a better idea of where this team is. On the road where they've struggled, but the M's have the pitching advantage in all 3 games. If they can win 2/3, I might start believing these guys have what it takes to win the division, even if Texas or Houston starts to turn it around.

I agree that a road series against Cleveland is huge. They can't get swept. If they managed 2 out of 3 you'd feel pretty good about this stretch anyway.
