Time to crowd the platehome plate ump giving quintana 6 inches outside for strikes to righties. robles already went after one for strike 3. 2 K's in the first, and another 10+ K night for the m's i'll bet.
But he is due to break out...
And his wife and Scott's wife do the puppy adoption thing for the M's...
For sure too much info can hurt a hitter. The best hitters have always gone up looking for one pitch and laying off everything else until there is two strikes. But now it just seems launch angle and exit velocity is how they teach. To me, the Mariners biggest offensive problem the past few years are their approach seems to be HR or nothing and they don’t change their approach when they are behind in the count…..basically all of the bad things with Julio. But if you look at why Robles has been so successful and even the Haniger walk off, they are just trying to get the bat on the ball.Mariner hitters rely too much on analytics. It's most certainly a fault of the hitters, but management has to take some heat for that as well if they are stressing the importance of analytics and pitch-type expectation at various points in the ball-strike count/# of outs /runners on base in an at-bat. It would be interesting to see how many called strikes they take in comparison to other teams, and then break it down further as called strikes on the five most commonly used pitches in the game: two-seam fastballs, four seam fastballs, sliders, curves, changeups...or, change one pitch out for a 'sweeper'. WTF??
Hmm, I know Dave made up names for stuff like Mr Snappy. But I don’t recall him saying sweeper, but even if he did I don’t think he was trying to rename a pitch.See I thought they called Jeff Nelson's pitch a sweeper back in the day. Maybe it is just this old memory of mine.
