it's not renaming a pitch, it's shortening "sweeping slider" used to differentiate how it moves/breaks...kind of like "slider" is itself a specific descriptor for a breaking ball. it's been buzzier the past couple years, but the term's been around baseball for awhile.

For sure too much info can hurt a hitter. The best hitters have always gone up looking for one pitch and laying off everything else until there is two strikes. But now it just seems launch angle and exit velocity is how they teach. To me, the Mariners biggest offensive problem the past few years are their approach seems to be HR or nothing and they don’t change their approach when they are behind in the count…..basically all of the bad things with Julio. But if you look at why Robles has been so successful and even the Haniger walk off, they are just trying to get the bat on the ball.
They all could have learned something from watching Leo Rivas' 7th inning at bat tonight. Very professional at bat. He took it deep in the count and then placed a ground ball perfectly to the opposite field in the hole a couple feet to the left of the second baseman. And he got two ribbies for the effort.

You'd think small ball would be making a comeback with the new rule on defensive shifts and limitations on how many times a pitcher can throw to first to hold the runner.
Not sure, I’m sure there is some guy who comes up with it. But guarantee they are just like the devil Bill James.

It’s not even small ball, it’s just called a professional at bat. You work the count and if you are down in the count you try to get a hit instead of a home run. Nerds deciding launch angle was great just proves how inept they are because any person who actually played the game knows always swinging with an upper cut is going to struggle. An upper cut and launch angle is the same thing no matter how many nerds who didn’t play sports think.

If you watch Moneyball, Jonah Hill is exactly what the analytics department is, dudes who quit sports at 7 to work hard on academics. Being smart is cool but trying to reinvent the wheel on a simple sport is stupid. As Bull Durham stated correctly, you throw the ball, you hit the ball and you catch the ball.

Seattle has a clubhouse that manifests and accepts mediocrity and lackluster performances by ball players that come here

The numbers are always shocking and eye-opening but I’m just never surprised anymore. It is to be expected for ball players to perform 30% worse when they get here and 30% greater when they leave.

The .
Unwillingness of other ball..clubs..to give up.there
stars ..like vlade gurrero

And 1b for guardians..
Playes into..what mariners are going threw..
But .
Mariners may finally..
Have pitchers to trade .
In the offseason..
So things are changing..
Just not as fast.
As fans would like ..

I have always liked Garcia
2b nat bats .(expos)...
But they...won't.
Give him.up..
He is know.. hitting 290..

How is shortening a phrase it not making up a new term for the same pitch? We have big sweeping curveballs so does that mean it’s a sweeper? I’ll admit I’m just going off of what old timers like John Smoltz have said. And that term stuck unlike the other two they tried forcing down our throat with opener and bullet

I see your point with the slider and breaking ball but that’s just a category much like you would say fastballs. The only way you can really change the slider is arm slot and that’s when you get into slurve territory.

Maybe we should rename Aaron Sele's 12-6 overhand curve, and every pitcher that is throwing it today. What should we call it?
