Zito was key last postseason. No way he should be in the conversation.

It's not like he was coming off a CY when SF signed him, hell he wasn't even in the discussion. Since signing he has posted an ERA+ of 88, YIKES...

After not throwing at all in 2010, I'd hope he'd at least make some kind of contribution in 2012. He might not be the most over paid, but his ass sure doesn't get a free pass for last postseason.

I agree with that completely.

So I'm guessing if making a contribution in last post season prevents him from being over paid, that not even making the 2010 playoff roster would have made him the most over paid? Sorry I don't think 2 good playoff starts takes him out of the discussion on this topic after 7 regular seasons of being pretty terrible and being left off the 2010 post season roster.

Well I don't know who I would actually consider number 1 over paid player. But there is a discussion going on about the most over paid players, and you were agreeing that Zito shouldn't be in that discussion. And I very much believe he should be in a discussions about the most over paid MLB players.

So 16 good innings makes up for 1122.1 IP of terrible pitching. Got it.

I guess that means I disagree with you. Have you read the entire thread?

I have read a lot of it and people are typing about over paid players. And I believe Zito is at the top of the list. I don't know what everyone is using to put someone in that category? But if you sign a 126M contract after really not having an outstanding season, post an ERA+ of 88 over that period of time, (7 seasons) are the highest paid player on your team and you don't make the payoff roster, are getting paid 20M for the current season with 116 IP and a 5.34 ERA, you are at the top of the list as over paid players.

He has two good postseason starts and that absolves him of being overpaid?

By this logic, there's no way anyone could ever call A-Rod overpaid.

I still don't see how the answer isn't Ryan Howard.

At the time he signed his contract, he was worth about $15M per year. He was a one-trick pony offensively and a terrible defensive 1B. They gave him $25M per year through his mid-30s. Now, he's 2 years into the contract and he's already finished. His one trick isn't even working any more. I said that he would be lucky to still be in the Majors by the 5th year when he signed the deal. Looks like I guessed right on that one.

Pujols now batting .175

He's got to be in the discussion. A-Rod is producing at least.

Seriously - calling someone out a few weeks into the season makes absolutely no sense. It is also not as if Pujols had terrible numbers last season (they weren't the absolute best but they were not bad). Oh well - hate will cause some folks to state things that don't make a lot of sense.
