Deadline past. I'm sure there are still a few deals that were done but not reported. For God sake I hope we got a reliever.
I guess the Dodgers are confident they can pick up another pitcher in the next month.
One major flaw about Pence is his fielding. He makes way to many errors.
But you guys are going to love him. He did wonders for us last year. Pence will be missed in Philly.
Shocker: Keith Law not thrilled with the Pence move. He does raise a good question about not resigning Beltran.
Pence is a marginal upgrade for the Giants over Gregor Blanco, adding more offense but at some cost on defense; AT&T Park also isn't the ideal spot for a hitter like Pence, whose power is above average but not the kind of huge power that will play even in a large stadium. He'll earn somewhere around $13-14 million in 2013 through arbitration. What boggles the mind is why the Giants allowed Carlos Beltran, a better if more injury-prone player who they gave up a top prospect for a year ago, to walk away last offseason only to have to trade for a replacement midyear. Did they not realize how lacking their offense would be?

As I noted a few days ago, Law thought the Giants would have the worst offense in the NL, and they've actually been in the upper third. He's having trouble re-calibrating his brain.
As for Beltran, he's old and had a pretty big question mark attached to the amount of production you could get out of him. Plus, he wasn't going to sign with the Giants for less than a two year deal. Law is using hindsight to hand-wave away the risk adjustment the Giants could not ignore in real time.
Also, if it's Pagan who loses the majority of the playing time, then Pence is a big upgrade. And finally, Law had Melky pegged as a fourth outfielder. This is why he isn't working in MLB any longer.
Looks like the Rockies did not trade Betancourt, so we can stop hoping for one of those late reports. Also, the Cubs got 3B Christian Villanueva and RHP Kyle Hendricks (two Class-A prospects) for Dumpster
The Dodgers have picked up:
Two bullpen arms
Two starting position players
And are likely to get one #1 starter.
Totally different team now. The real season starts today - throw everything that has occurred in the last three months out the window.
The Phillies officially announced they've traded Pence and cash considerations to the Giants for Joseph, Schierholtz, and Rosin.
Nate love aside, thats not a bad deal considering they're giving us money too. Brown is still a Giant, and I think a Choo deal would have involved him. The Indians already have one high ceiling 1B not doing his job
Nice. How much cash could make this an even better deal.
Nate simply wasn't more than a streaky bench player and ToJo was groomed for trade bait since the minor all star game.
Pence and Melky on the corners is pretty good.
One thing about Choo. He is a Boras' client. It would probably be Choo or Melky on who to keep.
When pablo comes back what is the lineup?
Pagan
Theriot
Melky
Posey
Pence
Panda
Belt
Scutoro
