Jon Heyman of The New York Post reports that the Mets have agreed to a 12-year, $315 million contract with Carlos Correa after his reported deal with the Giants fell through.

It's an overnight stunner. Correa was originally expected to be introduced as a Giant on Tuesday, but something came up with his pre-signing physical which caused the deal to fall apart. This gave Steve Cohen the opening he needed to make yet another big splash, though it's important to note that this new deal is also pending a physical. “This really makes a big difference,” said Cohen. “I felt like our pitching was in good shape. We needed one more hitter. This puts us over the top.” This is obviously a devastating turn of events for the Giants and their fans, who thought they had landed a true "face of the franchise" player. Correa will now serve as the Mets' starting third baseman alongside fellow countryman Francisco Lindor. The new deal will push the Mets' payroll to the $380 range for 2023, but Cohen doesn't seem to mind as long as he puts a winning team on the field.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Angels have agreed to a two-year, $17 million contract with free agent slugger Brandon Drury.

Drury had a breakout 2022 campaign for the Reds and Padres where he slashed .263/.320/.492 with 28 homers and 87 RBI -- taking home the Silver Slugger award for utility players in the National League. MLBTradeRumors had projected that Drury would land a two-year, $18 million deal, so it looks like a small discount for the Angels -- especially given the fact that he was one of the top remaining bats still available. He joins Gio Urshela and Hunter Renfroe as impact additions to the Angels lineup this offseason.

Reading earlier that they're still trying to sign Liam Hendricks as well.

So they may just crack that $400M

Worst in recent memory. Mainly due to expectations, though. Having as much cap space as we have, and being in on Judge for the last couple years or set the bar pretty high.

But hay. We got Haniger! And Manaea!

Michael Conforto -- 2/$36MM, with opt out and Taylor Rogers 3/$33MM to the Giants.
Rogers joins his twin brother in the pen and Conforto should help the outfield.

I am luke warm at best on the Conforto signing. It seems that the Giants are assuming all the risk on his recovery.

I like the Rogers signing better, but they are still paying him a lot for an 8th inning guy with a bad recent track record.

It's a risk but it's only 2 years at most (assuming it's a player option). Overall I like the Giants strategy of signing guys for shorter contracts. They got some guys with really solid potential that they are only committed to for 2-3 seasons. Stripling, Manaea, Conforto, Haniger all seem like good pickups to me. The way they keep expanding the playoffs it seems like the strategy should be to try to reach the postseason as often as possible to increase your chances of getting to the World Series instead of trying to lock up a bunch of superstars and end up having to rebuild when those contracts get near the end.

When we whiff on the big money guys we really shouldn't mind them using that cap space. We'll see if they can do the 2021 thing again.

But getting the twins together is just cool.

I am glad the Rogers thing is happening (now bring me Trevor!), but I still think it should have happened in Minnesota.

Another guy that can catch. The Jays will have a great group of catchers. I guess is makes sense, though. Varsho is a really good outfielder.
