He's been a disappointment since he left the Twins. 0.4 WAR the last 2 years with an ERA of 4 and a WHIP of 1.312. His K-rate is up slightly, but his W-rate is as well.

The White Sox and Andrew Benintendi have agreed to a five-year contract, sources told ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

Jeff Passan says the deal is worth $75 million. Five years is pretty extreme for a guy who has been an above average regular just once in four years, but Benintendi was one of the youngest free agents available and it was encouraging how he cut back on his strikeouts last year. The White Sox definitely needed the outfield help. They're going to use Andrew Vaughn at first base and give Eloy Jiménez plenty of DH time next season, so the outfield depth chart was pretty bare beyond Luis Robert.

That's the largest contract in White Sox history.

Seems fair in today's market. It seems like they have a million outfielders though.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Cubs are finalizing a contract agreement with free agent shortstop Dansby Swanson.
Swanson will receive a seven-year, $177 million deal, which also includes a full no-trade clause, per Russell Dorsey of Bally Sports. The 28-year-old shortstop, who posted a .776 OPS with 25 home runs and 18 stolen bases last year with the Braves, was the last superstar-caliber position player remaining in the free agent pool. He'll pair with second baseman Nico Hoerner in Chicago to form the best middle infield defensive tandem in baseball.

on Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Pirates have reached an agreement with free agent catcher Austin Hedges on a one-year, $5 million contract.

The Pirates had been looking at non-roster invitee Tyler Heineman or Jason Delay to function as their Opening Day catcher, so Hedges likely leapfrogs to the top of the depth chart now. He's a terrific defender, but inept at the plate, so Hedges can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Dodgers have reached an agreement with free agent slugger J.D. Martinez on a one-year, $10 million contract.

Robert Murray of Fansided was the first to report that the two sides had reached an agreement. When he's going right, Martinez is one of the most feared right-handed hitters in the game -- especially against left-handed pitching. The 35-year-old hit .274/,341/.448 with 16 long balls and 62 RBI over 596 plate appearances in his final season with the Red Sox. Martinez should find himself flush with RBI opportunities in the middle of a deep and talented Dodgers lineup.

Mets signed RHP Kodai Senga to a five-year, $75 million contract.

The deal was agreed upon last week and finally became official on Saturday after Senga passed his physical. As reported previously, the contract includes no-trade protection and an opt-out clause following the 2025 season. The 29-year-old hurler compiled an outstanding 1.94 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 156/49 K.BB ratio over 144 innings in 2022 as the ace of the Softbank Hawks' staff in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball.

I love how bad of a franchise they are

To nearly no one's surprise, Michael Brantley is going back to the Astros.

Padres sign Matt Carpenter to a one year deal with an option.

He was sensational for the Yankees last year before he got hurt, then had a post-season to forget, although I put that more on Boone putting him in the lineup far too frequently considering the layoff.

According to Ronald Blum of the Associated Press, the Giants postponed an introductory press conference on Tuesday with free agent shortstop Carlos Correa after a medical concern arose during his physical.

The Giants haven't released any details regarding that status of Correa's 13-year, $350 million contract agreement, which the two sides came to terms on last week. One of Blum's sources indicates that the announcement of the deal was put on hold while the two sides await the results of medical testing. Another source says that an unspecified medical issue was flagged during Correa's physical. It's possible the Giants are delaying an official announcement out of an abundance of caution, and are merely doing some due diligence behind the scenes, but it's a situation worth monitoring closely.
