The Bulls were able to pay him that because Pippen was making 3 million a year.
Also, after paying Jordan that much -- he wasn't going to accept less when he won essentially every MVP award (league, all-star, NBA finals), won the scoring title and was 1st team all-NBA and 1st team all-NBA defense in 1998.

Having Jordan gave the Bulls a license to print money, but Jordan made $29 million more than the next highest paid player on the Bulls in 1998.

No chance they could have re-signed all of them back. Half their roster were FA's, including Jordan, Pippen and Rodman. They would have had to spend $100+ million to sign everyone when the salary cap was $27 million.

You know that is never happening. Jordan wasn't taking a $24 million pay cut. He was ready to walk after 1997. He is the one who had to deal with the circus and the guy who essentially turned the Bulls into an organization who was printing money. He would have made the front office bite the bullet and pay Pippen whatever he wanted for 1 year and pay him, at least, what they paid him in 1998.
I can't even imagine how much the Bulls made in just merchandise sales in the 90's. I know I had the Bulls starter jacket in multiple colors and I was a huge Pistons fan.

Holy shit -- I just looked at what Reinsdorf paid for the Bulls in 1984. $16 million. After drafting Jordan -- they went from averaging 6,000 fans to having 8,000 season ticket holders after Jordan's first season.

Chicago is now worth 3.2 billion. Unreal. Not a bad investment.

It doesn't really matter.

If he was offended, he was offended.

These overpaid Athletes, coaches, executives logic is beyond what the average person seems reasonable, at times.

But we don't know that the deal offered also came with him not being able to pick his own staff. If that was a prerequisite (staff picked for him), no need to even negotiate further for him.

And, yes, it kind of matters what Phillip was offered. Suppose he was offered what top coaches earn and still declined?

But, sure, he does not have to be reasonable nor is he required to stay. But that's as much on him as Krause if that was his choice.

What would it prove if he pulled a Lebron and went chasing rings? He proved he could win championships with a 3 peat. Then left for 2 years, the team didn't win, then came back and won 3 more.

He wasn't jumping from team to team with other stars or trying to team up with Barkley, Ewing, Drexler, Olajuwon, Malone, etc. He wanted to bury those players because he had a maniacal obsession to be the best and win. (It is that instinct you are either born with or you aren't)

He proved he was the best over and over. What would he gain by teaming up with others? He didn't need to chase rings -- he won 6 with the team he helped build from the ground up.

I don't think Jackson is some otherworldly coach. I think he is very good at massaging egos of otherworldly players and getting them all on the same page.
