I think the 10-day rule is waived if you are replacing someone going on the DL.

Straight from the rule book, you are right:

...A player who is sent down to the minors can not be called back up for at least 10 days unless another player (position does not matter) is placed on the disabled list, the season ends, or he is traded.

Mota threw his first rehab game in the rookie league, he is eligible to come back August 28th, so presuming there are little setbacks, he should be back when rosters expand.

I know Weez is the guy we all miss, but Mota was basically replaced by Penny/Loux and we all know how thats gone. Mota was a glue guy, abet not exciting, but important none-the-less.

With Mota, last nights game would have been 8 to 2.

A's acquire Steven Drew from the D-Backs. Wow, selling low IMO. Guess they are confident in Bloomquist.

Juan Carlos Perez, the normal LF, has moved to CF recently and pushed Gary Brown to left. May this be a showcase for a soon-to-be callup? We'll see.... Christian ain't getting it done, Boch knows this. Had Blanco in against the lefty (Bochy playing a lefty on a lefty really means he has no faith in you as a replacement)

He's batting a cool .400 his last 10 for AA. He has a .307/.346/.456 line 11 homers 15 steals...

I sure hope that what this means. I know conventional wisdom says no, but I'd fully support Sabean if he called him up. The problem with the Christian-Blanco platoon is that neither guy can hit a lefty or a righty.

While it might be nice to see Brown up here (September at the earliest) and see how he handles a start or two vs a lefty, he's still a raw AA rookie and not likely to Mike Trout us to the division crown. In other words, that's not a real solution for our 2012 LF problem.

I hope we are still trying to get someone on waivers. They don't have to be particularly good, just be able to hit better than Christian or Blanco.

True, but at the very least he can be a Darren Ford-type September call-up. Some might say, without Ford's speed late in games, the Giants would have never made it to the playoffs in 2010.

Agreed 100%, no downside to having him in September for Ford-like duty and spot starts. I'm just saying, we still need a left fielder.

Heck, I guess we don't have to wait very long before he's up here. And if he lights it up and we need him for the playoffs, I'm sure Gregor Blanco or Justin Christian can be counted upon to come up with some injury.

I was referring to JC Perez, not Brown guys. Don't think G's want to bring Brown up anytime soon.

Same logic applies, though. Perez is not a true solution in left. And why not bring up Brown in September as a pinch runner/pinch hitter?

Unfortunately, it looks like a 4th and a 5th OF are going to have to do the job of a 3rd OF for the rest of the season. That goes for anyone that they pick up on waivers, too.

Service time, not wanting to rush Brown. Perez has been in the minors a decent time now and deserves a shot. And if they don't think Brown's ready they'll want to give him as many AB's as possible.

Fortunately, with Belt and Crawford picking it up and with the acquisitions of Pence and Scutaro, we were able to shore up a lot of our holes. Maybe we'll be able to survive the Blanco/Christian platoon.

Too true. The next five games will be very telling, but if SabeySabes can find a way to pry David DeJesus from Theo, without getting blocked, I'm for it. I bet the Dodgers would Cody Ross us, though. :hurt:

So true. Jon Miller was saying after the game last night that with the Giants and Dodgers leapfrogging each other, it's just a matter of what day someone gets put on waivers. I wouldn't be against expanding the lead tonight, though.

Just put in the claim right after we lose tonight, if we do?

I don't know if DeJesus has been put on waivers. I got the impression that everyone but Castro and Samardzjia were fair game, but I would have thought someone would've already put in a claim on DeJesus. He can help a lot of teams in contention, is due a modest $4.25 mil next year and has a $1.5 mil buyout in 2014 ($6.5 mil team option) and doesn't seem to be made of glass or juicing.:burt:
