Upcoming pitching matchups for the next six games:

Tu: Z v. Jurrjens --advantage SF
W: Tron v. Minor -- big advantage SF
Th: Bum v. Hudson -- advantage SF
F: Freak v. Worley -- advantage ATL
Sa: Horse v. Hamels -- even **game of the weekend**
Su: Z v. Blanton -- advantage SF

I can see 4-2 this week. I really can. If Timmy steps up, it could be a VERY good trip.

I see you've pencilled in 'good Zito' for his two starts on this roadie. Because 'bad Zito' is huge disadvantage SF. I still don't think we can know which one will show on any given day.

So, in game 1 of the SF@Phi series, you have "Advantage ATL". Does that mean you expect the Gs to win since that would, in a way, be good for Atlanta?

I am soooo confused...

That's because you've been hanging out on the Disney Board too much.

Busted.

True, that's why I figured "average Zito" for both.

Just saw 'Moneyball' (on cable). I really liked it. Curious what the board thinks.

Even if you're no fan of the concepts in the book (which I imagine most of us read) or the A's, I think the movie has different pleasures. It was cool to see the 'real' (or at least to me very realistic) depiction of the day to day grind of the locker room, the GM office, the player/manager/GM conversations, etc. All about actual players and managers in very recent history we all remember.

I think it's a top ten baseball movie. It's no 'Bull Durham' (what is?) but I quite liked it.

A's part 2: Anyone else rooting for them to squeak into the playoffs? I am, both because it's always cool when a no budget team does that. Also, I'd like to see them take Boston or LAA's spot. And finally, in the unlikely event they make the WS, I'd like to see a 1989 rematch. This time we open at home, as the favorites (we weren't in 1989) and no earthquakes please.

My two favorite teams in baseball are the Giants and whoever is playing the Dodgers. After that, my next favorite team is whoever is playing the I's.

FUCK the I's.

Well yeah, but what better way to fuck 'em than to administer a 1989 revenge beatdown in the WS?

To me, the A's are so cute and precious and sad there's no glory in hating on them. If they don't mess up our situation (Santa Clara) why hate? It's like, the 'second team' fans in the 2 team markets will tend to really hate the 'first team' and their fans (A's fans hate Giants/Giants fans, Mets hate Yankees, White Sox hate Cubs) but you don't see as much animosity the other way IMO. Yankee fans know they own NY, the Mets aren't a concern.

1. They are arrogant. Despite being the inferior franchise for the past 20 years, they seem to want to point to the 1970s and the 80s to prove they are a better team.

2. They are revisionist bitches. I's fans insult Giants fans because we supported Barry Bonds. When I point out to them that they supported McGwire and Canseco, they claim to have hated those two. So I ask them if their WS win was legitimate (going back to point #1) because it was the two Roid Bros who carried them to the WS and they generally fall back on some bullshit excuse about how it was their pitching that gave them the title in '89. Bullshit.

3. The I's are still trying to eff with the Giants' territorial rights. The San Jose decision has not yet been officially made by the Commissioner's office. Until they agree to stay in Oakland or get the hell out of the Bay Area altogether, they are going to be thorns in the side of the Giants.

4. Billy Bean. 'Nuff said.

I would HATE another Bay-Bridge series.

This may be partially because I do not live in the area and would not experience the atmosphere, but I think it is more pragmatic. I do not want the I's to gain any kind of foot-hold. I want the I's to disappear. I want them gone. The BA is not big enough to support 2 healthy clubs in today's economy.

If the I's were to have a Cinderella year and gain a little market share in the BA, they might be able to weasel their way into Santa Clara and that would be horrible for the future marketability of the G's.

As Cam so eloquently stated earlier...

Fuck the I's

Wow! Slapdown of the year:

Love this.

Look, I’m not one of those people that insist you have to have “played” the game to know what you’re talking about. But many people who have played baseball, or covered baseball, for many many years, have commented on Belt’s swing mechanics. Yet, amazingly, the girl in her early 20’s knows more than them. You post here constantly, so as this site goes everyone will agree with you no matter what (and lot’s of LOL’s and retarded comments will follow), but that’s what makes this site so hilarious- people who have played in the majors for years don’t know anything, ever- every single decision they make is an LOL- you know more than them because you watch games on tv and comment on the internet a lot! You have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s the equivalent of someone who reads a lot trying to tell an author how to write. It’s two distinctly different things and your pretentiousness is disgusting. You’re clueless but carry yourself like you spent 40 years observing the game. Reciting a players OBP doesn’t mean you know anything about swing mechanics or a million other things. You’re a kid citing a baseball card stat- stop acting like you’re a fucking expert and everyone else is a moron.

So I was reading this article: Zack Greinke ‘definitely’ traded from Brewers before deadline, GM Melvin reportedly says | SI Tracking Blog ? Tracking MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA On Twitter

and I came across this line:

Matt Cain, the San Francisco Giants pitcher who threw a perfect game earlier this season, signed a six-year, $127 million extension with the team but even he hasn’t seen that level of success that Greinke is currently riding.

What is the author talking about? The 16 W, 200 K garbage from the previous line? Fangraphs WAR?

Since 2009...

Cain's WORST ERA was 3.14. Greinke's second BEST was 3.44.
Cain has thrown 797.1 IP. Greinke has thrown 144.0.
Cain has a WS ring. Greinke has a CY trophy.
Cain has been an AS 3 times. Greinke has been an AS 1 time.
Cain has WHIPs of 1.181, 1.084, 1.083, and 0.950. Greinke has had 1.073, 1.245, 1.200 and 1.203.

If only cain could some day be HALF the pitcher Greinke is.

Dont get me wrong. Greinke is a STUD. But Cain has had a better 3+ year run than Greinke has.

I have no idea to what he's referring, but here's the data (2010, 11, 12)

Greinke: ERA+ 100/104/120 avg 108
WAR 3.2/1.4/3.8* avg 2.8
Cain: ERA+ 124/119/127 avg 123
WAR 3.8/3.3/5.2* avg 4.1
*= projected for 2012

Conclusion: the writer is full of shit. Cain has been better every year, in every way.
