A quick breakdown of Minnesota sports.

football- they won 11 games in 2019. Only the second time in team history they won double digits games. The other season was 1900. Their last national title was 1960. Before that they won titles in the early 40's and mid/late 30's.

basketball- a total of 14 March Madness trips. 17 seasons with at least 20 wins. No national titles. One Final Four trip

hockey- last title was 2003. The last 43 years they have three national titles- 1979, '02 & '03

baseball- alotta conference titles, won national titles in 1964, '60 & '56

Well, I have to start work soon, so I'll just start you off with a few nuggest.

#1 - SPAM. Our troops ate better than the enemies.
#2 - K-Rations. Developed by a Univ of Minnesota professor Ancel Keys.
#3 - Nurses. UMn had more of it's female students join the war effort as nurses than any other university in the nation.
#4 - Soldiers. UMn had the most WW2 vets use the GI Bill to go to school in 1946 than any other school in the nation.
#5 - Hawley's Helmets. Jesse Hawley, a former Gopher football player who won a Natl Title coaching Dartmouth in the middle of the 20s, started a company after college that ended up producing over 250,000 helmets for US/Allied soldiers during WW2.
#6 - Owen Wangensteen. He developed a surgical technique that saved the lives of thousands of soldiers who otherwise would have died from abdominal wounds from gunshots or bomb detonations.

#7 - The Andrew Sisters and Judy Garland did much to improve the morale of the troops during the war. Boogie Oogie Bugle Boy was one of the Andrew Sisters' hits. Garland put out 10 Top 30 songs from 1942-45.
#8 - A UMner invented a way to water proof containers to deliver troops, stuck on Japanese Islands, essential supplies, that allowed them to get the supplies despite Japanese boats patrolling the waters. They got dumped off in the water under the dark of night and picked up by the troops undetected by the Japanese.
#9 - The A-14 Oxygen Mask & the BLB High Altitude Oxygen Masks were developed by a Minnesotan(s), which helped our pilots gain an edge over the enemies pilots in air battles.
#10 - Synthetic Rubber was developed by a UMn Professor which was a huge help seeing as the Japanese cut off the Allies supply of natural rubber.
#11 - Farrington Daniels was a Director of the Metallurgical Lab of the Manhatten Project.

He, Owen Wangensteen, was not personally on MASH, but the suction tube named after him, used in the procedure I mentioned was mentioned on MASH, episode #173.

It was estimated that his procedure, that's still standard practice today, had saved the lives of over a million people by the time of Wangensteen's death in 1981.

Richard F. Edlich described him as "the greatest surgical educator of the 20th century."[6] The success of his teaching and training methods is demonstrated by the careers of his trainees. Of these 38 became the department chairs, 31 accepted positions as division heads of their departments, 72 were directors of training programs, 110 became full professors, and 18 had appointments as associate professors.

Because of work I couldn't watch either of the last 2 Gopher fb games. But seems like I will be able to watch todays game. Maybe that bodes well for them pulling off the upset? A Narcissist would say, lol.

Unfortunately for those here who hate me, the Gopher Hockey teams are both doing well, ranked #1 and #2, and the men's basketball team pulled in a highly rated transfer and nabbed a Top 30 recruit, so... the bs won't stop completely no matter how the fb season finishes out.

Game isn't over yet. Maybe if the refs would call the roughing the kicker penalty they should have, or the pass interference penalty they should have then Minnesota would still be driving. The PSU player CLEARLY pushed the Gopher Receiver down from behind, no call.

Take away the 2 tds the refs handed PSU and it would be a one score game. Pretty simple.

It's obvious the B1G wanted PSU to remain ranked high with only 1 loss so they could hype their matchup next week with OSU.

Not saying the Gophers would have won the game had the refs called it straight up, but it would have been a much closer game for sure and then who knows.

Hey dumbass, the Gophers had the ball and were driving, and a td would have gotten them to within 7 pts. 7 points is a deficit easily overcome. Players play differently and coaches coach differently when down by 7 than they do when they are down by 21. 21 is an almost impossible deficit to overcome late in a game and causes teams to change how they play and sometimes they make comebacks and sometimes it leads to an even bigger margin of defeat. Both act more desperately and do things they otherwise wouldn't have done, like passing way more when you have a great running back who usually does better as the game progresses, and going for it on 4th down instead of punting or going for an onside kick instead of punting giving PSU a short field making it easier to score quickly. And needing a freshman QB starting his first college game ever in a stadium filled with opposing fans all dressed in white making a shitload of noise to put the team on his shoulders and score 22 unanswered points is not usually going to end up well.
