Larry Foote - LB - Steelers

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora confirms the Steelers will likely release either ILB Larry Foote or ILB James Farrior.
Farrior's agent expect his client to get the ax, and Foote is nearly six years his junior. The most likely scenario is Foote filling in as the starter while the Steelers develop a middle linebacker prospect from the upcoming draft.

Damn, thats fucking boss right there. That'd be smart as hell for a team inside the division to do that, front load it because they'd be afraid to lose him to a division rival... with the pure intention of putting the Steelers into cap hell.

Pretty devious...

Yeah, imagine they had no space to sign their rookie class.

Umm I would give up our 30th pick right now and not think twice. A guy who is 25 years old and has averaged 1,200 yards and 9 Tds in the past 2 seasons for a low ass draft pick

I rep you for this nugget of wisdom sir. Although I don't believe that AS has the arm that can properly utilize him, I believe that his speed demands double teams and can open up the middle of the field for VD and company. I like to think of him as DeSean Jackson minus the lack of effort.

Adam Sheffter reported on NFL Live today that the Steelers were going to cut Farrior and his 3 mil salary.

Steelers have now also cut Kemoeatu and Aaron Smith.

Kemoeatu is a guy i would really consider. I'm not sure if his play dropped off, or if it's an injury thing, but a couple of years ago this guy was a beast.

His play dropped off big time this season but I don't know if he was injured. He was a beast not long ago, that is for sure.

I just read he has knee troubles and couldn't block a soul.

After all these cuts. I think the Steelers are around $13-14 million under the cap. They still need to sign a rookie class and fill out the roster. I could see them possibly cutting McFadden to free up another $2mill and change. A team needs to offer $10+million in the first year to Wallace and he's theirs.

This article is from yesterday so the $10 million of space has increased since then. I think it will take more than $12 up front to get Wallace. Pitt should have franchised Wallace and locked him in around 9.

Mike Wallace - WR - Steelers

NFL.com's Mike Lombardi believes the Steelers would be unable to match any offer sheet for restricted free agent Mike Wallace that includes a first-year salary cap cost of $12 million or more.
The Steelers are currently $10 million under the salary cap. They have ways to create more space, but the $12 million first-year cap charge might still be too cumbersome. Pittsburgh could cut its losses and accept a first-round pick as compensation. Lombardi suggests the Bengals making a bid. Cincinnati would surrender its pick at No. 21 overall for the rights to Wallace.

Pats should make that move/push for Wallace, they can afford the $ and pick.

Wallace and the Niners
9:42 AM ET
San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the two teams that's been most strongly speculated as being in on the bidding for RFA WR Mike Wallace. A report on Thursday noted that the Pittsburgh Steelers would not be franchising the WR, and would just be using the RFA designation on him.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee presents the argument in favor of making a strong play for Wallace. "He's only 25, he's fast, he's explosive, he's experienced, and, the argument goes, he'd be the perfect complement to Michael Crabtree. ... The acquisition not only would give the 49ers a deep threat with good hands who made the Pro Bowl in 2011, Wallace's mere presence would make Crabtree, who thus far has not played to his 10th overall draft status in 2009, that much better, as well."

Despite that potential boost, Barrows believes that while the Niners might get involved in the process, ultimately they will duck out if it gets too pricey. ESPN NFC West blogger Mike Sando adds that this does not seem like a move the 49ers would make, given their franchise-building blueprint:

- Tim Kavanagh

Mike Sando
Don't see this one happening

"Sorry, San Francisco 49ers fans. It's just tough envisioning the team sacrificing its 2012 first-round draft choice for the right to overpay for Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Mike Wallace. The 49ers have sought to build their team through the draft, patching their roster with relatively affordable free agents. If they were to splurge for Wallace, sacrificing the draft capital that goes along with landing restricted free agents, the move would run 180 degrees counter to form."

I don't have any wood for Wallace. I've already stated I don't feel like he is a good fit with our QB. I also don't think we will have the space needed to front load an offer for him. We still need to re-sign our QB and Rogers.

I'd offer 8 million for this upcoming season with whatever on the back end. The Steelers would probably match, but it puts them in a rough spot to do so. I would not feel good offering any more to any FA WR let alone one we have to give up a 1st round pick to get. Then again we need a WR so giving up the pick to get a proven one would not bother me to much.

San Francisco 49ers: Why Marques Colston Is Better Fit Than Mike Wallace | Bleacher Report

Makes sense. We were the second worst team in the league on 3rd down and the offense struggled in the redzone. Wallace is a great player but I don't think he helps us as much as Colston does in those two areas. We need a big, possesion receiver. Plus, he'll probably come cheaper and we get to keep our pick.

Very true indeed!!:bounce: Harbaugh will need to make some great adjustments with the passing game, either way it couldn't hurt! Go 49ers!!:juggle:
