13 mill in space, but they have to sign Bryz and they have 2 RFAs that are probably due for a raise, right? So if they do give Bryz 7 mil, they have 2 RFA deals, and at least 2 more F to sign to fill out their roster.

Yep, Bryz deal done. Cheaper than expected. NINE YEARS and $51 million. So...cap hit of just under 6?

Not feeling well and I take a nap. Wake up to this.
I love the heart of Simmonds. Will Doughty be upset that his best buddy is now gone?
Not complaining about the trade but Wayne owes me a muffin and a glass of OJ

Okay, so NOW they have 7.8 million left to sign the rest of their roster.

If Bryz doesn't perform in the playoffs...man. There'll be some pissed Philly peeps.

Looks like I need a new most hated Flyer. Carcillo, I'm looking in your direction.

It still doesn't seem like they have a lot of money left still, just because they acquired two RFAs

13 mill cap space now, there's a little over 3 mill in the bonus fund and you're hopefully freeing up almost 4.5 mill more by waiving leighton, Shelley, walker and having Lappy on LTIR. That makes a grand total of about 20 mill in free space(I'm relatively sure you can use the bonus cushion atill, but you're fucked if peoepl hit them for the next season).

If they really have that kind of free cap room they could bring in some nasty talent and still make the team better top to bottom.

Makes sense, but the money that you save from 3 of those 4 will just have to go towards signing new guys. Still don't think they're gonna have the money to sign a big name FA like Richards.

As I saw it last year, Briere, Pronger and Giroux were the headliners. They're still there and they're getting goaltending and youth. This may turn out to be a smart move after all...

Pronger...wasn't much of a highlight last season.

I agree, and with JVR elevating his game I think these are very solid moves by the Flyers. Maybe it'll hurt short term, but long term it's better for them.

I think we all knew that Pronger was the captain and leader. It wasn't his best year, but it wasn't bad. Just my thoughts.

theres no bonus cushion this year because its the final year of the cba

Flyers are at 7.5 mill worth of space right now.

Laperriere cap hit applies to the cap since he is an over 35 contract but Im sure they will be able to move that contract to a team needing to get to the cap floor
(add 1.16 mill)

waive Leighton
(add 1.55 mill)

waive Shelley
(add 1.1 mill)

dump/trade Versteeg
(add 3.08 mill)

so 14.39 mill in cap space to sign Voracek, Simmonds, Leino(? - Andy Strickland tweeted Leino is looking for 4 million per season), Carcillo(?), Nodl(?), Powe(?)

I think they are gonna have a go at Brad Richards ... I dont think its coincidence that news came out this morning (before the trades) that Brad Richards wasnt going to waive his NMC prior to July 1

Almost just what I had said, heh.

Flyers captain Mike Richards traded to Kings in pre-draft blockbuster - Puck Daddy - NHLBlog - Yahoo! Sports

"For the Flyers, one of the most dramatic transformations of a dressing room in recent NHL history. Or at least since the Flyers traded for Chris Pronger(notes), which was another bombshell dropped at the NHL Draft.

And why did they acquire Pronger? Because of the locker room issues caused by players like Carter and Richards.

This is Pronger's team now, as you assume he'll get the captaincy that probably should have been his to begin with. This is now the team of Danny Briere(notes) and Claude Giroux(notes).

Are the Flyers still a Cup contender minus Richards and Carter?

With the removal of two players and the addition of three (and plus Bryzgalov), this is now a different Flyers team that it was on Thursday morning. But is a better one?"
