this is pretty amazing
(from Butterfly Effect: The full impact of the Lindros trade - HFBoards , where he shows his work of each trade)

Over the past few months I've made a side hobby of tracing the complete "family tree" of the Eric Lindros trade.

In this project, I recorded ONLY connections made by subsequent trades. I did not count waiver claims, free agent signings, salary dumps, or other "indirect" consequences. So what you will see is the complete, direct tree of events that resulted from trades tracing directly back to the Lindros trade.

I always thought that Colorado's team was built thru that trade, but never realized how many players it affected.

kind of funny that Colorado and Philly each have only three active players left through all of the repercussions,
while random teams like Boston and Calgary have a dozen each.

Not really, most trades don't include the amount of players, draft picks and money exchanged to acquire 1 player as in the Lindros deal. Prove your point or stop with the mouth diarrhea!

Ok ill get back to you in a few days when I go though pages of transactions, but anyone who has been traded a few times can create the same sort of "butterfly effect" the reason for this is not just based off the initial but any transaction for that player until the end of his career.

For example.

Player A and B are traded for Player C and D and a 1st round pick.

so in this made up scenario these four players move on though FA or future trades creating an extreme 6 degrees of separation. to the original trade. When you are saying current players that were barely alive when the original Lindros to the Flyers trade happened were effected that gets a bit extreme.

Now Im not trashing the guy obviously it took a lot of work and time to find out years of transactions on anyone who might be some what connected to the Lindros trade. Once you get so far out though it has no real connection to what you originally started with.

I will also add that chances are the players on that list that are still playing would probably still be on the same team. Now I have no way to prove it but drafts and trades in all sports work the same they determine best in a draft and if they feel they need to move up or can move down to get the guy they want they will do so getting the guy they targeted. Same with trades they go after the person they feel will best improve their team.

Oh, awesome, I was hoping someone would leave that to me.

This is a MASSIVE waste of time. It's interesting to peruse for a couple minutes, but it doesn't actually mean much and I question it's accuracy/basis as did this poster - "What I found really interesting was the fact that Columbus has more players on their team right now than the actual two teams that made the trade combined, despite the fact that they were still 7 years away from existing at the time of the actual trade."

This guy found 542 connections to Lindros. He would have been better off (1) filling out 542 job applications or (2) listing 542 reasons he never gets laid instead.

Statistically, it is interesting but in a substantial sense, it doesn't really mean much. Too many factors since that trade so it seems a little silly to say that if Quebec and Philly hadn't traded Lindros than the Jackets would not have Wiz, Dubi, Arty or Frattin. It is neat to see the bloodline, but it's more for gawking's sake than anything.

Like every once in a while you see people who follow trade histories and come up with some tripe like "Once you go through it all, Boston traded Phil Esposito for Andrej Meszaros!". At some point there are too many steps between to make it worth chasing down. Interesting to follow, but not much current day impact.

Does it factor in the Primeau for Brind'Amour trade after Lindros slept with Brind'Amour's wife?

I didn't say it wasn't neat. I am an investigator, I love following lines to their ends no matter the result.

In fairness Ottawa's entire lineup is due to the Yashin trade with the Milbury Isles so they get a free pass on this one.

All those players were far too young for the Wings to trade for as well. They only picked the old veterans during that time for the most part.

As a side note, I did find this thread very interesting. Good work.

I always thought that Colorado's team was built thru that trade, but never realized how many players it affected.

I always felt that Colorado always went for the home run swing at trade deadline trading away too much young talent at the expense of winning. It worked for them for a while but I think it caught up to them over the long term.

I don't know if that list is entirely complete. I distinctly remember trading a couple of 92-93 Upper Deck Lindros rookie cards for some names not listed.

Lol, pretty much all the heavy hitters during that time period took big swings like Colorado. There were many reasons it caught up with the Avs (trading young talent among them) like the Salary cap that happened in the early 2000's, Pierre LaCroix stepping down as GM, ect..
