Lol, pretty much all the heavy hitters during that time period took big swings like Colorado. There were many reasons it caught up with the Avs (trading young talent among them) like the Salary cap that happened in the early 2000's, Pierre LaCroix stepping down as GM, ect..
The Aves seemed to do more at the trade deadline instead of the offseason than any other team. A lot of teams made big moves at the trade deadline, but the Aves seemed to do less in the offseason with free agents and more at the trade deadline than the others. I might have to enlist help, but if no one else agrees, I might be able to do the research over the weekend.
