Unnamed sources claim Smyth deal done and we should hear details by Saturday.

Simmonds brings it all: a little scoring, a little fighting, a little agitating, a lot of defense, and a giant heart.

with that Smyth albatross of a contract gone ... the Kings are in a great position july 1

I just dont know whether Brad Richards wants to stay out west ... but LA definitely meets his need to play in a market where he can just blend into the crowd

Bob Miller (Kings god of play by play) is having a little trouble keeping up. I think he would freak out if the Kings got Brad as well. M Richards, passes to B Richards, who leaves it for Richardson in the corner.

I don't think Kings are still in the running for Brad Richards. They still have Doughty and a few other pieces to sign.

I didn't realize they had THAT much space. Just how many centers can one team have? I know some of them can move to wing. Just not use to being anything but a door mat when it comes to UFAs. Kings never seem to get their guy. Just used to get a better deal from the team the player really wants to go to.

I'm not arguing that Simmonds had a sub par year, as I didn't see him enough. But he did sure tear shit up whenever I was watching and also seemed to get a little smarter over time.

yeah he did. It says a ton about his worth as a player for him to be used as trade bait. He did okay this year according to his stats, but as far as hockey sense and character, he matured quite well in that department.

Brayden Schenn... according to capgeek he is scheduled to make over 3 million dollars next year? Am I reading this correct... I mean... hasn't he only played like 10 games in the NHL? If this is correct.. he has a great agent...

OK... never mind... his salary is 900K but his cap hit is 3 million, bonuses I suppose...

I assume that is what is goind on right?

yup. Entry level bonus laden contract.
I don't know how many of those bonus features are reachable, but they all count against the cap this year.

Thanks Puck... do you happen to know if those bonuses are not reached, are they added to next years cap space... example.. if he reaches some milestones and receives a 1 million bonus, but 3 million count against the cap... are those extra 2 million added to the max cap for the flyers next year... assuming the league wide cap will be $66 million, would the flyers be able to spend up to $68 million?

as I understand it - normally bonuses are attached to next year's cap number.
but in a CBA year, that doesn't apply.
also, because it's a CBA year, the FULL amount of potential bonuses are applied to this year's cap, instead of just what are actually earned going to next year's.

There is no CBA for next year so the is no ruling on what would happen to that cap space.
I am guessing Schenn doesn't make the big club this year anyway. He didn't make the Kings last year and they played two defense men at different times during the year as forwards. One more year and he should be ready to explode.

I'm not familiar at all with the Flyers organization but they had a clip of Holmgren on the NHL (Home Ice?) XM channel earlier today... he was talking about the changes to all the lines and where he expects everyone to fit in and how, etc...

FWIW, he had Schenn playing on the 3rd line with the big club on day one, it sounded like.
