A quick look back at the most unlikely road to the playoffs any of m teams have ever undergone in 15+ years playing this hobby.
Day1..the draft! Absolutely terrible looking team coming out of draft day. Charles in round 1, Julio Jones in the second after DMC was sniped ahead of me, and with four picks before my round 3 selection and 2 Rb's on the table that I wouldn't mind having as the #2 left, thought I'd surely have a shot at one of the other. Not so much! so Randall Cobb in the third. After the Cobb pick, 8 more Rb's went to polish off the remaining week 1 bonafied (shout out to Chef) starters. So I snatched up my sure to be Rookie of the Year in Montee Ball in the fourth. Yep that was me, thanks to me bad evaluation skills, and the rest of the league snatching up anything even resembling a decent RB in the first three rounds.
Cam newton in the fifth, probably my best pick of the draft, Witten in the 5th, Ben Tate in the sixth, and than believe it or not, it went downhill from there! The likes of Bernard Pierce, Isiah Pead, TYler Eifert, and Ryan friggin' Broyles were all on my opening day team. Yikes
Week1- Figuring that this week would be a lost cuase, I thought I'd least I'd be in line with a nice waiver choice, snag that big breakout stud that seems to always show up..nope..Somehow this collection of jokers, minus Broyles for Joquie Bell, managed to put up 99 pts, but still needed a historically bad Monday night game from David Wilson to snake out a 2 pt victory. Even a 0 from Wilson would've gave me a loss!
Week 2 this sad sack of marbles threw up 120 points, how I have no idea, yet still only managed a one point victory over The Fuzzies. Lady luck- 2, my opponents -0, average victory margin = 1.5 pts
Week 3, we crushed the eventual arch rival White Album, thanks in large part to injuries to Ray Rice and Reggie Bush, which allowed J. Bell and Pierce to play, plus a combined 57 pts out of Charles and Cam. Again, more luck, this time, bad luck for starters of my backup RB's
week4 Cam and Cobb on a bye, bad choices at back up QB (Geno Smith) and replacement WR (Streeter) sealed my doom, didn't help I faced Drew Bress.
Week 6- chalk up another win for luck as my opponent wasn't able to change his lineup that week, and left me with an easier road. But I paid for it with the loss of Julio Jones and R. Cobb
Week 7 Blockbuster trade, Charles gone, welcome in an object of my eternal disdain, MJD, along with DWILL, and D. Thomas, and snagging Harry Douglas with the second to last waiver order pick..pays off with a victory. 6-1, but first one I'd like to chalk up as being my own creation and not some strange result of lady luck.
week 8 the wheels begin to fall off. Lefty has one of his weakest weeks of the season, and still beats up on me, even with the zero from SJAX.
week 9 the team hits rock bottom, can't even clear 50 pts. Traded away D. THomas for a handful of magic beans, one of which would go onto to be injured (DMC) and the other which would kick my nuts for 40 points on the bench a little later on (Decker),,..4 players on BYE, 2 active players grab zeros, and 2 others score a 1 each! But wouldn't have mattered, as Tlance would've crushed anything I could've done with his 160+
week 10 yet another luck of scheduling win, as I played the absentee DuffBeer (although this was the last week he changed the lineup, the changes didn't help). Here's to ya Duff, wherever ye may be. Hope life is treating you kindly!
week 11--loss
week 12--loss
week 13 win, but only because of huge weeks from both Cam and Ben Tate, no one else on the team did much for sqwat.
week 14-chalk up another win that i had nothing to do with, as had Wilwhite not been being a good husband, and taken Stafford and Bush out in time, I'd have lost, and been knocked out of the playoffs.
So I end up 9-5, and being gracious, I give myself 2 wins where it had more to do with the way I constructed the starting lineup over just pure and simple luck.
I had the 7th highest scoring team out of 12, and up until the final week was top 4 in points scored against (now 7th)..a 9-5 record just doesn't happen without a supreme amount of luck, when it mattered the most.
Slightly embarrassed to be here, but proud that i didn't give up after the draft debacle, proud that I persevered after losing Cobb and Julio. Embarrassed that I still had faith in DMC, and that he proved everyone else dead right, yet here I am, hoping for two more stroked off of lady luck.
