With Hicks going to Toronto that may really help the Mariners. Haven’t seen what St Louis got back but Sewald is much better than Hicks, Robertson or Graveman IMO. No idea what Teo’s value because he is essentially a 1 tool player at least this year. But put him in Baltimore or Tampa then I think his value goes way up.

And no idea on France cause he only has two gears, either a hitting machine or a black hole in the lineup. But IMO if they trade France then they are punting on this year. Right now they have 3 glaring holes between them and an upper echelon team. COF, 2B and a 5th starter. We all know France is struggling but it doesn’t make sense to intentionally create 2 more holes that you have to fill in.
I think you're right, but I'm hoping you're wrong. I'm not even advocating spending a ton - although I know they have the capacity to do so - but at least at a minimum be a player when it comes to the second tier guys on the market. Imagine how much better this team would be had we added a prove it player like Cody Bellinger and supplementing that by bringing Carlos Santana back. If we had those two in the lineup, I think this team is at a minimum 6 wins better. That is a massive gamble cause we know there is only one FA this off-season that the Mariners are going to spend any money. It isn’t even being pessimistic, we know they won’t spend money on free agents. I know someone will point to Ray, sure, 1 guy in Jerry’s whole tenure. My bigger fear is Gilbert is going to get dealt in a deal for a player that the Mariners could’ve gotten with Woo or Hancock plus other prospects. If Gilbert is getting dealt for anyone other than Soto should mean the Mariners aren’t sending a single prospect.
I can’t see them doing anything other than the AJ Pollack type guys. Cause his unrealistic excuse is true, that if the veterans played to the back of their baseball cards and all of the young guys reach their full potential but that is a really dumb way to approach building a roster. It’s like a GM saying we are expecting the 2001 Mariners where everyone except Edgar had a career year.
I won’t fault them for not signing Bellinger. I think any person who says they expected him to bounce back the way he did is kidding themselves. But on that same note it would’ve been better to sign him and hope he reaches his potential over signing Pollack or LaStella and hoping they reach the ceiling of only bad or a platoon.I think you're right, but I'm hoping you're wrong. My concern is that if we deal someone like Logan Gilbert, it could just end up with us landing a controllable, average young player with upside and maybe a prospect or two, which just ends up being a lateral move. As much as I believe that bullpen arms are a dime a dozen, shipping off Sewald for a prospect doesn't help us at all if the plan is to contend next year.
That is why ...they .want him so bad..I won’t fault them for not signing Bellinger. I think any person who says they expected him to bounce back the way he did is kidding themselves. 100% agree those moves make them better, but mostly Santana. Julio, Teo and Geno all have needed chewing out for how terrible they have been at the plate since it seems the coaches haven’t gotten through. No idea if there are stats for it but those 3 guys have had at least 50% of their AB’s aren’t competitive AB’s.
That is my fear as well. Gilbert is worth way more than what has been rumored. As a fan I don’t want the Graveman thing again where they trade a huge part of this current team for a guy who can’t contribute to this season. They already need to find an innings eater and it doesn’t make sense to force yourself into finding 2 innings eaters unless they can somehow they can turn their offense into a top 5 offense at the deadline.
