Stefen Romero blasts a 2-run HR. Rainiers down 5-3.

----------------

A couple players should be hearing footsteps right about now.
Who exactly? Can't replace aoki or Martin with him bc of what they bring to the team respectively. Certainly not Cruz. And I find it hard to believe he would out perform lee as the right handed option in the 1st base platoon giving lee's production in limited time. Maybe Guti? But with the limited time Guti gets, not sure it is beneficial to bring Romero up if he won't get regular PT.

Don't limit yourself with platoon garbage. A platoon is only valuable if the platoon player is hitting. Guti looks tired and the season just started. Lind hasn't hit since last July. Smith might have more value to another team in a trade. Romero isn't the next stud by any means, but he is still hungry and cheap allowing M's a chance to add salary at deadline since they don't seem willing to add to where they currently are.

Interesting.. I take it Diaz is transitioning to bullpen role
Yup, saw that his change up isn't developing and he is basically relying on two pitches. He will immediately be the best power relief prospect in the system and can probably ramp up his velocity a bit in this role as well.

I am good with it especially if the org feels he has more value to the major league team from the pen.

Also interesting is this is something the Jack Z regime would have put off as long as possible to try and force the issue with a top prospect even if the skill set is better suited for a different role. Heck Diaz might end up being a legit closer.

Just read that his FB touched 98 last night and sat regularly at 96

Worth noting

• Dipoto confirmed that top pitching prospect Edwin Diaz is being converted into a reliever at Double-A Jackson with the belief his top-end ceiling is higher out of the bullpen. Dipoto said Diaz threw 96-98 mph in his first relief inning for Jackson on Tuesday, a 1-2-3 eighth inning in a 3-2 victory over Birmingham.

"We felt he had the potential to be a Major League starter, but he has the potential to be an impact Major League reliever. And to me, one supersedes the other."

• Dipoto said lefty James Paxton will be limited to one inning in his Wednesday start for Triple-A Tacoma as part of an innings-control plan, then go back to his normal routine in his next outing in five days. The Mariner are pleased with Paxton's progress.

"He's been great," Dipoto said.
