Ownership was willing to fork over money to those guys because they figured if they worked out, they wouldn't have to pay them real money once their cheap contract expires.

I totally get the it will be cheaper in the long run if the dudes actually pan out, but if they don’t it is a lot wasted money on unknown players as opposed to free agents who have shown the ability to play in the big leagues.

That is just my point, they “opened” up the checkbook for Jerry during the rebuild, he couldn’t sign 3 of them, has massively struck out with Evan White. Ray is a toss up at the moment but Jerry got them to open it up for him then a few months later he had to go back to the front office and say hey I need money for an ace….seems like a hard sell.

If the FO wants to go cheap then Raid Tampa's coaching staff and scouts and possibly the Mariners could become a consistent 90+ win team

Or Stanton needs to sell his majority share to whoever the Portland group is funded by. But on a positive note they got 3 first round picks so that should line up with Ford, Young, Clase and hopefully Celestine.
