I really don't buy this hub-bub about the Titans drafting Mariota. If they can get a team to give up a fortune, that helps the Titans far more than a swing and pray on Mariota. That Titans roster isn't just bad, it's just straight up depleted of talent- they need the extra picks.

If you look at Whisenhunt's QBs over the years, Mettenberger would seem to be his type, a big strong armed pocket passer.

If Tennessee doesn't take Mariota, l think they will they should take L. Williams - DT and not trade out.

Agree if Tenn has Zach and he struggles and Mariota has a avg - good year people will be calling for heads.

Matt Flynn is unsigned and might be an option.

Browns already interested in Marcus :L

If I were a Browns fan, I would be a little gun-shy about trading draft picks or whatever for ANOTHER first round QB. Since 07,they have either drafted or traded picks to get Brady Quinn, Brandon Weeden, and Johnny Manziel. Go back to '99 and you can add Tim Couch. They are better to find a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round that may be an under the radar guy. With so many holes to fill, they just need to build on the team with the two 1st rounders they have, rather than mortgage more draft picks on ANOTHER unproven QB.

If he is like Kap I think most teams will take him because that would mean he would at least lead them to a super bowl and some championship games.
Let's hope he has more between the ears then Kap, otherwise he's doomed to be a bust.

They have Mettenberger, who is not proven, but still better than an aging QB. Also, they can get a lot more value in selecting a higher caliber player such as Williams or trading the pick for multiple later picks.
So, I think the Titans would be smarter to pass on Mariota at #2.

Give Zach sometime to prove himself. Get what you can out of whoever wants to move up and take MM off your hands with tge # 2. Too risky when you could stockpile a few extra picks this year in a pretty strong draft class.

Local radio saying ownership will trump Webster and demand the Titans take Mariota.

Will I be a Chargers fan in a few hours?

I can NOT believe this. Walter Cherepinsky is now fairly sure the Titans are seriously going to take Mariota. Is this posturing to up the value of the pick or are they serious? :L

April 27 update: Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean tweeted that he believes that Marcus Mariota is the favorite to be the second-overall pick to the Titans. He also noted that a trade with the Chargers is possible. Other reporters have said that San Diego has had no discussions about moving Philip Rivers, but that could easily be smoke.

Of course, the Titans could just take Mariota themselves. With everyone's jobs on the line - another poor season will spell the end for many in the front office - Tennessee would be crazy to head into the 2015 season with Zach Mettenberger as its starting quarterback. Mettenberger has the physical skill set, but the mental part of his game isn't there yet. He also has had a major problem staying healthy. The Titans simply can't count on him.

There were reports earlier in the offseason about the Titans having no interest in a quarterback at No. 2 overall, but I've heard otherwise; I've kept Mariota at No. 2 in my 2015 NFL Mock Draft this entire time for a reason. Albert Breer echoed this, reporting Wednesday, "I don't think the Titans are sold on Zach Mettenberger and I think they want to come away with a QB in the draft."

If Tennessee doesn't get a trade offer it likes, the front office will have no reservations about just simply selecting Mariota to be its quarterback of the future.

There are reports the owner is forcing them to take MM

Also reports that they asked for too much and overplayed their hand. We shall see...
