We've apparently traded Michael Williams to the Patriots. No terms have been disclosed yet, but I've seen speculation of a late round conditional pick, which would seem about right.

Interesting move- he likely would have beat out rookie Corey Robinson for the 4th OT spot, and apples-to-apples I'd rather have Williams out of the two, put Williams and a 6th rounder is probably better than Williams, value-wise.

What are the chances that the Lions are smarter than the Ravens and Patriots?

Will be interesting to see how the Pats use him. Will he be a RT, a TE, both, or something else? They signed Reggie Wayne too.

Williams did well in the first game and no so well in the second.

I prefer Robinson. Called the pick during the draft. He has a much higher ceiling and can develop into a starting LT as well. One less tough decision to make this year.

Future 7th rounder. Curious move.

I'm guessing he'd have to be used as a RT. He was really slow BEFORE putting on about 30-40 lbs to play RT. I can't imagine they would have him running routes. Maybe on some jumbo setups, he could come in as a TE or in a goal line package.

What I found interesting -- The Pats tried to sign him off the practice squad last year and we gave Williams a raise to keep him.

Three years ago I might not of cared. However with the recent late picks and UDFA contributing. I will take a chance on a future kid for one who hasn't seen the field.

Does this count as developing a late rounder UDFA? After all they did get something in return for him.

I could see Belichick bringing him in just to do some sort of trick play against the Ravens. Its probably worth the 7th just to taunt Harbaugh one more time.

Future 7th rounder. Curious move.

Is that confirmed because i've read 4 teams were trying to get him. You would think we could have done better than a likely very late 7th from the Pats.

On a side note we're really piling up late round pick for next year 3rd round comp pick from Suh, 5th rounder from the tampering/trade George Johnson deal, 5th? round comp pick from Fairley, a 5th from trading back in the first round, a 6th for Seisay, and then whatever this ends up being. So 7+5- the 3rd rounder we traded away 11 picks next year.

At least the new GM will have something to work with.

Oh, like Nate Fuckin' Freese?

And yeah, it counts as developing a UDFA, I think.

As much as I liked Mayhew took his guy Freese. Who I eventually loathed. Glass not half full but two sips left brought them Prater, who should be a steady fixture as long as he keep his coin in his pocket.

This just means he will have extra picks to trade up into the third to get Mulbach's replacement.

Took them a decade to fire Millen who had the worst record of any GM in recent memory. Going to be a long time before Mayew is gone. Especially after how well this years draft class turns out.

Still, I would be OK with giving Caldwell the job if Mayhew farts in the wrong direction. Move Austin up to HC.

That's on WCF, RIP.

Jr. doesn't share his dad's patience.

IMO it has to be a total disaster. Worse than anything you've predicted. Jr. may not be his old man. I just don't see him being fired for a 7-9 or better. Possibly even 6-10?

Only reason I feel this is, most times when you fire a GM it is a clean slate. I just don't see him wanting to get rid of Caldwell. Not that he has to fire Jim. Just that the new GM may, to have his own guy.
