hope he has speed to burn to get off the rail.

dang that's a crowded field for this late of running and especially a turf race.

Sounds pretty rich for fillies. Especially for the purse not being huge. You might make more money betting her at 55-1.

THE MUZZER is a 3YO bay colt foaled in Ireland.

BARELY A MOMENT (AUS) x STORM SURGE x ZAHA (CAN)

He will be running in Illinois today at 7:20 PM EST in a maiden claim race with a tag of 50k for a purse of $31,000 at 4.5 furlongs (~900 meters, 9/16 of a mile) on the fast dirt. He's in a field of 9 with the 2nd post at 9/1.

1st call - 1st - head
2nd call - 1st - head
3rd call - 2nd - 1 length
finished - 4th - 3 1/4 lengths

$930 in earnings.

Most of the time, after a race, the horse is groggy for a few days. The Muzzer was ready to go again.

$28,200 to the winner.

Betting is no longer an option. It disappeared with the rollout of the new version a couple of years ago. As with many things, it was abused. Since the money isn't real, there were too many bridge-jumpers.

Showed some promise anyway. Any idea why he faded some in such a short race?

First time out against experienced horses is always tough. The only other first time starter finished 6th.

True. Also, if he had a lot left that maybe the surface was just too fast for him and the race too short. Maybe a little more distance on a slower track might benefit him if he is kept just off the pace. He can take the starch out of the speed horses.

Not much evidence to go on. At this point it's all guesswork.

Also true. He will develop some naturally too so no need to rush anything yet.

Yes. For example, POLITE MOXIE is bred to run all day on turf, but I'm not going to debut her at a mile and a half. She'll get there as she matures. Besides, she'll probably end up preferring dirt sprints. :what:

LOL, Ya never know.

We had a greyhound like that. Would close like a train at 5/16, but refused to run at all at 3/8 (didnt like the gate and short first turn). Didnt have the distance for 7/16 though for some reason. He would take the lead just before the 3/8ths pole and it was like he didnt know he had to keep going down the stretch.

Sometimes there is no figuring an animal.
